Patch pain killers

My doc has just prescribed me a patch pain killer has any one else ever tried them it has got to the point the more I’m up on my feet and walking the pain and stiffness is so bad I could just sit down and not get up but then wen I do get up I’m so stiff I can’t move, so anything is worth a try for the pain but for the stiffness who nose I have toyed so many things I don’t now maybe I just unfortunate not to get on any of the drugs they have tryed

I have used something like this but they were a drug free version… Lots of natural stuff etc and they really helped with pain, stiffness etc. I do have a good friend who uses one with drugs in them for her migraines I think, but she never uses just them, always combines them with a traditional pain killer too

I’m on BuTrans patches, have been for a number of years, they do help me greatly with, pain however I do get side effects, as there morphine I get very dry mouth, constant thirst, hot flushes of the body. Mine are a patch that is on for a,week, I have mine on my shoulder blade, tried them other places and just couldn’t stop itching, seems ok where it is now. Not sure if its just me but when I put the patch on I get symptoms and when it’s. day 6 I get them, when I mentioned it to the pharmacist she said no its not the patch but I’ve got an appointment with gp on Monday as spoke to her and she thinks it is, I’m trying to see, if there is anything that will give me similar pain relief. I also take pregabalin 2x 300 daily and co codamol and I’m not pan free! The pain clinic recommended these. I’m sure there are other members on these as I asked sometime ago.

I’m also on the butran patch - actually i get to wear two! I find some relief but not enough to find satisfaction hence why i’m wearing two as i keep getting increased on the dosage.

Unfortunately i have been taking severe reactions to them so i don’t think i will be on them much longer.

Everyone is different and what works for you might not work for another so give them ago and i hope they work for you.

I’ve been on patches for 20 months, and am fortunate in that I don’t suffer any really bad side effects. I have increased from 1 patch to 2.5 ish over the 20 months. I combat morphine withdrawal by ensuring there is a continuous ‘supply’ of ‘Fresh morphine’.When I was on one patch I used to apply half of one on day five, with the date written on.When the whole one was ‘running out’ on day 6/7 I’d apply the other half, with the date written on it.

It’s a bit more complicated now,but I’ve not had withdrawal symptoms for months. The image of the toilet scene in Trainspotting keeps me focused.I apply the patches on my legs Naughty I know, but there is nothing nasty happening. If I get redness or dryness I apply baby lotion. To keep the patch completely flat I apply ‘medical tape’ to the cut side.

.This works for me,but we know how different we are…Praise be.

I now take much smaller dosages of Gabapentin, Lamotrigine and the ‘Sativex Substitute’.This reduces the pain better than larger doses. My new Neuro said that she’d seen this before. Baclofen can really help SOME people.I was good with the stuff for two weeks, but then it turned into a nightmare with more pain, fatigue and weakness. It took four days to wean off the stuff and about 10 days for the pain to drop back to just plain awful.Again the Neuro said she’d seen it before.

Hopefully, there is something in these ranblings to help somebody,
