Hello everyone. Have any of you had any adverse reactions to Baclofen? I’ve had some spasticity in my thigh for over a year which hasn’t resolved so I started taking Baclofen in early June (lowest dose to start with) after a few weeks it did seem to be helping as my walking had become noticeably steadier. Unfortunately very soon after this I suddenly developed incredibly weak and painful muscles/ligaments around the knee on the same side. So much so that climbing stairs is now agony. My knee was the only part of my left leg that functioned well and without pain, so this is a real step back for me. I don’t know if this is coincidence. Has anyone else experienced Baclofen making things worse?

I did do a search on my phone before posting but I only got 2 results, neither of which were helpful. I’ve just done the same search on a desktop and I’ve had lots of returns this time, so thanks.

Question for the site developers: why? Is it a glitch?
I can completely relate to what you’re describing — Baclofen can be a tricky medication. Some people experience genuine relief from spasticity, while others notice new issues like muscle weakness or joint pain, especially when the balance between muscle tone and relaxation changes too quickly. It’s possible your knee pain comes from altered biomechanics rather than direct damage. Careful dosage adjustment and physical therapy often help mitigate that. Hi chezza78. I’ve taken Baclofen several times in the past and it’s always been successful, until this time! Never had any issues or side effects anytime when I’ve used it before. A little over a month ago I experienced some spasticity issues and went to see my GP. Actually never saw her but was seen by a nurse practitioner instead. Because it’d been an while since my last relapse she couldn’t see the dosage I was given then and I couldn’t remember. I went back a week later and saw an different nurse practitioner! Anyway she wouldn’t increase the dosage.. and it wasn’t making any difference.. until she’d written to my neurologist. The next week and nothing was getting better so I managed to get another appointment and it was actually with my own GP.. hooray. She doubled the dosage and made an appointment for about two weeks later. Still wasn’t helping one iota. She prescribed something else.. Methocarbamol, been taking that for a couple of weeks and although not instantaneous! it does now appear to be having some affects on the spasticity. She only prescribed a months worth, but I’m sure that she will prescribe more if I rang them. A months worth isn’t actually a lot but I’ve never been prescribed more than a months worth of Baclofen in the past either. I have to ring up to get another prescription if I need it.

Hi chezza78, I found when I first went on baclofen anything over 5mls put me into urine retention. I’m unable to take the tablets as they contain lactose. A lot of the medications for neuropathic pain, or spasticity cause me to become tachycardic . Have you tried it at a lower dose?
