Optic neuritis

Thank you for the advice much appreciated

Hi! I am struggling with eye problems for 3 weeks now. It was my first symptom followed by leg tingling, numbness, then weakness. So far, I am undiagnosed and this is my first attack. My leg weakness has gotten a little better but my eyes have gotten more blurry and achy when I turn them. I started with one eye but both seem to be affected now. I go for an orbital MRI later today since no optic neuritis showed on my eye exam. Just wondered if symptoms can show without a confirmed diagnosis.

I’m really not sure I don’t know much about it myself I’m newly diagnosed x let me know how you get on?? X

Hi Emma,

have optic neuritis at the moment. What I am experiencing is a loss of focus in my right eye. If you Google Optic Neuritis there is a illustration of a Ferrari car which is exactly how my vision is. I am not experiencing any pain, at first it felt like when my eyes get tired.

I have had it now for around 4.5 weeks and I am getting used to it but am really wanting it to bugger off. I work in a physical job and I drive 20 miles to do 12 hour continental shifts, so with the ON I can’t work which is more of a nuisance than the actual symptoms,

When I had optic neuritis I was off work for 3 months. I had double vision. It was my 1st symptom and it led to my diagnos just 3 months later! I had iv steroids while I was in hospital but what helped me was wearing an eye patch until my vision returned. Hope things are ok for you x

When I first had the blurred vision before I was diagnosed with ON I tried an eye patch and I found it was worse. The patch I got from the local chemist was uncomfortable so I will discuss with my GP tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi, sorry if I’m late to this thread! I had it 4 years ago now. Started with pain when loving my eye which got gradually worse over about 2 weeks, then vision started to go blurry and I completely lost my vision in my right eye. It only happened with my right eye. After another two weeks it gradually came back, and now it’s completely back to normal. Did have a little blind spot for a while when i did some field vision tests but had another with my routine eye test this week and it’s completely gone. The only thing I have now is because of the nerve damage when I had an evoked potential test (electrodes to see how your nerves are responding to vision) there’s a sight delay in my right eye, but that doesn’t cause any problems unless someone throws something to me really quickly. I never catch it, I lo like a toddler learning how to do it! Oh, and also I didn’t take the steroids because they told me it would be IV (which I don’t think is the case now) and they said it wouldn’t effect the overall outcome, just speed recovery. If it happened in both eyes I would have taken it though x

That should say ‘moving my eye’ and ‘a slight delay’! Don’t think ms is an excuse for fat fumbling thumbs, ha ha x
