Optic Neuritis

I’m 14, and have been on the IV steroid course two weeks ago, followed by the immuno-gobulin drip, which the doctors say should improve my vision, however they’re still getting worse, and I’m nearly blind in my right eye. How long should I give the treatment to help before going back to the drs?

Hi I would say go back to the doctors Monday or phone the duty doctor on Monday. Another thing you could do as its the weekend is call 111 today or tomorrow and they might get a duty doctor to call you back. I called 111 three times few weeks ago and was reassured by the GP. Its best for you to have peace of mind, so they won’t mind you letting them know how you are getting on. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi

The important thing is that you are reassured. Don’t worry about going back to the doctor’s, that is what they are there for. If your doctor doesn’t see things this way then change him or her, you need his or her support with this.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the advice!!! I shall go on Monday!

I hope that the steroids work very soon and that you find your eyesight improving! I hope your GP proves to be helpful and supportive! Good Luck! Teresa xx

Hi Franzbeth, I have been thinking why don’t you try 111 today and ask for a GP to call you back. You are needing some reassurance so why wait? I’m not a medical person to advise you… But do let us know how you get on xxx

Hi i had optic neuritus last year when i was diagnosed i lost sight in left eye was given steroid too to make sight come back it took just over a week and was fine again it took about 6 months for sight to go back to normal but its fine now dont worry it will come bk x

hiya… i had optic neuritis last year and was almost blind in my right eye. I had steroid tablets for 5 days with no improvement at all until a week after I had stopped taking them. sight came back to almost normal within a couple of weeks after that. the neurology registrar who perscribed them told me this would probably happen, not sure if IV is different tho. do call the docs or your ms nurse if you have one, like anne said, its important that you are reassured and try not to worry too much. hope you get better soon. cx

Thank you all! I have been back, (as no improvement just yet) referred me to opthalmology department! Just the waiting game now, as I’m sure we’re all familiar with!
