Ocrevus infusion – time off work

Hi,

I will be having my very first Ocrevus infusion soon, followed by the second infusion two weeks after the first one.
I am trying to decide how many days of leave to request from work (I haven’t disclosed the MS). Were you okay to work the day after your infusion, and how many days were you off work in total? I mean for office-based work, rather than anything physically demanding.

Also, am I right to assume that the major side effects 2-3 days after the infusion are fatigue and generally cold and flu symptoms, and maybe pain?
Thank you!

Maria

Yes, straight back to work the following day :+1:

Actually I felt great for 2-3 days afterwards because you get a buzz from the pre-med that accompanies the ocrelizumab. Methyl prednisolone is a steroid and eases pain / improves mobility, though unfortunately is not suitable for longer use.

Good to know. Had it always been the case for you, or you had bad days after some infusions? I know everyone is different. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve only had 3 but been fine afterwards.

Ocrelizumab can make you immunosuppressed and I’ve had a couple of infections that could have been attributed to the meds.

Others talk about the “crap gap” because the infusions are 6 months apart, that the meds wear off then your system gets flushed with the new dose.

Maria, I’m sure you’ve thought this through and made your decision not to disclose for good reasons. I just wanted to check you did know that time off for treatment would be hard to refuse as a ‘reasonable adjustment’ if you had told them you had MS. Not necessarily paid time off, but at least you wouldn’t have to book precious holiday. But telling one’s employer can be a can of worms for all sorts of reasons, of course. Anyway, good luck with your treatment.

@MariaB123 I either have the day plus next day off or have it in a Friday so have the weekend.

Absolutely agree with @alison100 you should be entitled to time off work for it, without holiday or sick leave.
