NHS Wheelchair

I wonder if anyone has had experience of replacing their NHS power chair.

when I got my current chair (over 2 years ago) I wasn’t aware that I could pay extra to have the riser function included, by the time I found out the chair had been delivered, it cost a few hundred pounds to have it added at the beginning but mega bucks to fit retrospectively. The therapist said that I could have it on my next chair.

My legs are getting weaker and I am finding it difficult (and dangerous) to keep standing up to reach things. The riser function is not considered to be “clinical” and so needing it is not really relevant to prescriptions so I know that I will have to wait for a new chair. My question really is “how long do you keep a chair before it is replaced?”

Think it depends on what council you are living in .
