New legislation for pip

Hello, I’m wondering if anyone can help me.

My mum is sure that in February there will be a new legislation regarding ms and pip and people with ms won’t have to have an assessment. I’ve heard nothing about it and can’t find it online anywhere so I’m wondering if anyone on here has heard of it.

Thanks if you can help

Cheryl

Hi, I think it was regarding ESA rather than PIP but I may be wrong, the paragraph below indicates it’s ESA.

There’s a bit on the MS Society website:

“In October 2016, the Government announced that some people with conditions like progressive MS who can’t work will no longer face benefit reassessments. New criteria are being developed for Employment Support Allowance (ESA) and some people will have their reassessments stopped. This means they won’t be asked again to prove they are too unwell to work.”

And those of us already in the Support group for ESA are hoping and praying (in my case to Saint Durer of the Foggest Fundamentalist Church) that the change will affect us automatically rather than having to go through the renewal process first. Hopefully they’ll decide how it’s to be managed soon.

Those who’ve said that comments where about ESA are correct, however this idea has never been mentioned since. If the plan is put into practice it’s likely that ESA will undergo further changes before to make it even harder to get placed into the support group as this would be unlikely to apply to those in the WRAG, it has been suggested on you’re able forum that it would take a further two years to become law after the DWP has identified the conditions that it will apply to, as we know Mrs May’s mum had MS so it’s likely to be included for those with PPMS or SPMS.

So in short I’m not gonna hold my breath!

No I won’t be holding my breath either xx

It’s worth following the updates on Disability News. It seems the committee of MPs will produce their PIP report in April.

“The team reviewing PIP on behalf of DWP has also confirmed that it will accept evidence collected during the DNS investigation. Paul Gray’s second review of PIP is due to be published in April.”

The PIP investigation asks MPs to consider assessment dishonesty by nurses. There are a number of articles on this issue here:

Hi PJday

Thanks for this, I’ve never heard of Disability News so going to have a read
