Neuromyelitis

hi any of our readers had experience / dealings with Neuromyelitis optica.

I’m particular in the difference between MS and Neuromyelitis optica

Hi, is it a separate condition?

I don’t know, if there separate, related or just completely different, I’m going to ask my ms doctor at the next appointment which is unfortunately not for some time.

Hi ,

The official name for this condition is Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum disorder (NMOSD), also known as Devic’s disease. This is a neurological autoimmune condition , (similar to MS, and transverse myelitis) . With NMO , patients typically have clear MRI scans of the brain (i think ?? , although don’t quote me), but have lesions showing on the spine. NMO is a condition where the spine and eyes are affected. I think patients are diagnosed following a blood test to identify anitibodies for aquaporin levels ( or something like this ??).

I only know all this because I know of someone who has the condition. Hope this helps.

I was tested for Devic`s/NMO in hospital last year and dont have it. It was done with a blood test.
