My first post

Hi Cath and all

Thanks for the reply, I live just across the Bay from you at Silverdale. My history is that I saw my GP as I was getting a lot of headaches and was refered to Dr Boothman at Blackpool as my GP said he was the best for such things. I get on really well with Dr B and over a couple of years with all the tests one can imagine he eventuually arrived at the ms dx but to be sure sent me to a consultant in Preston who said I had MND !!!, went back to Dr B who said that was rubbish and reconfirmed ms. Since then I have been seeing Dr B regularly but when he told me that my difficulties in urine retention and constipation were not connected to my MS I did wonder a bit, maybe I misunderstood him, so we shall see when my wife and I go to see him next week.

I tried OT at Lancaster but it didn’t really help and as the spasms and a lazy leg are my only physical difficulties I gave up on OT and just get on with it.

When I started this thread I couldn’t sleep due to the leg spasms which we have now worked out was due to me decreasing my medication so I have resumed my evening cocktail of tizanadine, co-codamol and ibuprofen and once again I sleep quite well.

So sanity returns and I’m fine and feel quite a fraud that I’m taking up the time of all you lovely people who have far more to cope with than I. I thank you all for your posts and I shall stay with the forum and interact and help where I can and might even start visiting my local ms group to see if I can be of use there.

Take Care

Hi Randolph, Please don’t feel a fraud, we all have time for each other and it’s always nice to have someone new on here. Good luck at the neuro appointment next week. Let us all know how it goes…especially the mystery of why he thinks your bowel and bladder problems aren’t MS related. Best wishes, Nina

Nina is so right, don’t think you’re a fraud or wasting anyone’s time, we all have good and bad days or weeks, it doesn’t matter how badly or mildly you’re affected, we’re all here for each other. Let us know how you get on with your Neuro, it seems funny you having to go all the way to Blackpool for your hospital visits when there are experts much closer too home. The Neuro I saw in Lancaster was good, I only changed so I didn’t have to travel so far.

Take care

Cath xx

I see Dr Majeed at Blackpool. I understand from my GP that all the neuros at Blackpool are actually based in Preston but not all the Preston neuros see patients at Blackpool (my first neuro doesn’t so the change of hospital was the official reason for my change of doctor). I had my LP and evoked potential tests at Preston.

I have never heard anything but praise for Dr Majeed and I have also heard good things of Dr Boothman. I like thar Dr Majeed doesn’t appear to know the meaning of the phrase ‘wait and see’!

If Lancaster is closer to home he’ll see you there, I feel that as I’m going to have to be monitored for the rest of my life I might add well be seen somewhere I can drive myself to, Ulverston being the closest for me. Dr Majeed got fed up for my self being sent everywhere for tests and not getting a definite dx that he promised he’d get to the bottom of it, admitted me for 3 days and got my MRI’s and LP and called me in as soon as he got the results, told me that the LP made him certain it was ms and went through why he thought it was PP and was really good explaining everything. He takes no nonsense but won’t let you down. I will always be grateful to him for taking me seriously and looking at the big picture, he never made me feel like I was eating his time as some others did.

I hope your appointment goes well, you’re in good hands.

I’m quite happy going to Blackpool and do get on very well with Dr Boothman, it was just the thing with the urine retention and constipation that caused me concern. As for Dr Majeed I saw him about 4 years ago and I’m sorry to say that I will never ever go anywhere near him again, I will not go into detail on an open forum and I’m sure for some patients he is very good but not for me so I shall continue my trips to Blackpool to see Dr B or if I feel he can’t help me further I shall seek help elsewhere, but I doubt it will come to that.

I wish you all an enjoyable Easter and hope you all receive lots of easter eggs.

I’ll let you know how I get on next Friday for which I’ll start a new thread.
