? MS hug?

Morning all, On and off for the past 12 months I have been getting muscular pain around my ribs. Then last weekend had this horrific pain that started right in my spine, like someone had stuck a skewer in it, and the pain radiated around my rib cage, so much so I struggled to get my breathe. It went after around half an hour, but left me with tenderness to the muscles in my ribs. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Does anyone else start with the pain in the spine first? Thanks J x

Hi Miss Demeanor, Sorry to see no one else has replied to your post as yet. This is something I can relate to. I have RRMS and have had 2 relapses. Very uncomfortable sensation/tightening/pain/struggle to breathe properly or take deep breaths. As yet I have not found anything that eases this symptom, however, it is reassuring that it eased right off after some time. I will say though, it does seem to re-appear if I ‘over exert’. I also have the tender ribs. I do have pain in my lower spine but more of a shooting pain, unsure if this is related. Hope this helps in some way. Take good care. Tracey

Hi Tracey, Thanks for your reply. Glad to know I am not alone and can bring it up next time I have an appointment. J x

Hi miss demeaner I have tender ribs also I got woke up with cramp/pins and needles in my ribs not a pleasant sensation. It is worse when I’ve been lifting my daughter a lot. Yesterday morning I felt like my rib muscles had seized. I notice this morning it’s felt better yesterday I sat most of the day my legs are tight and sore too but I’ve been on a ms will not beat me mode since the start of January. I think I’ve maybe just overdone things the past 6 weeks. Em x

Hi Em, Thanks for your reply. I know what you mean, you go all out to try and beat it, unfortunately, I don’t listen to the warning signs at times and it floors me. I should learn, but sometimes I feel life is too short to take it easy. I thought I might have just strained my back, but I have had this horrible sensation before just while I was out and about, like someone had approached me from behind and stuck a knife in my back. It really is unpleasant. I guess it’s just something else to add to the list for my next appointment…it seems to be growing ever longer lol. J x

Suffered from the hug for a long time. Said be intercostal muscle spasms. (Rib muscles). Tried various drugs , diazepam etc, all with nasty side effects. Doctor recommended Anodyne Therapy. It’s a system of special heat pads. I use them every morning for 15 minutes . It keeps the pain at bay. If, for any reason, I miss my morning treatment, the pain returns ,

How horrendous for you, and thanks for sharing your experience. I have been trying to have a warm bath in the morning rather than a shower to ease a few of the ongoing pains I am experiencing at present. I have an appointment coming up soon at the hospital so might just give it a mention. Thanks for your input, it’s greatly appreciated! J x
