Mismatched oligoclonal bands

Can anyone please tell me what this means ? Thanks Xx

Sorry…should say unmatched

I would assume that means they found some in your spinal fluid that were NOT also in your blood. They test both, and compare.

I think bands in the spinal fluid that had no equivalent in the blood would be consistent with a finding of MS (suggests broken-down myelin is present in the CSF), but I’m not sure that’s the only thing it can mean…

There are two or more bandings found in the CSF and not in the blood. This may be a sign of multiple sclerosis or other inflammatory processes. Hope this helps Pete

I think wikepedia is a great resource for checking out things i don’t know or understand. Here is the link for oligoclonal band:- Oligoclonal band - Wikipedia

hope this is of some use x

Thanks all.
