Sorry cant help haven’t tried it. Chis

My friend suggested this to me as I always have so much on the go, so I bought a book from Amazon (which I have not read yet, doh!). I think its definitely worth a go if you can get to the class, let us know how you get on.

i will definitely give it a try but the course starts in november and i have a LOT of appointments in my diary for then.

will keep you updated

I’d definitely recommend it. I’ve done a little bit of mindfulness meditation online (getsomeheadspace.com) and I think it’s helped me.I’ve not done anything specifically to do with pain management, but I can see how it could help.

Let us know how it goes

being one person who cannot cope with the medication, have found meditation works a treat for me, I would say give it a go, and when you do can you report back to us I tried a new meditation one the other night got the best sleep in ages

I’m like Amylou - bought the stuff (books & CDs), but still not tried it yet.

I bought them because it’s been shown to have therapeutic value - particularly in management of chronic pain.

So I’ll be interested to hear how you get on. It might spur me on to try it. I keep meaning to, but even now I’m not working, it never seems to reach the top of the priority list.

hi

yes-have been going to class for 2 years-not since this latest relapse but am trying to solve the problem of getting there.

4 times i have been able to imagine my body doesnt exist. if it doesnt exist it cant feel pain. its shortlived-20/30 mins i must try to lengthen the time-its bliss. dont expect a quick fix but for me its def persevering. interested to hear ur experience.

ellie,

if i can get 20-30 mins relief that will be great. the pain isnt massive but its constant and wears me down.

i’ll definitely book it and feed back once i’ve been

[/quote] Hi Carol and everyone! I have personal experience of mindfulness, although I don’t suffer from MS I was diagnosed with a chronic condition which proved very disruptive to my life as I was unable to work, socialise or basically enjoy life due to persistent symptoms and pain. I became very depressed very quickly and was really immune to being brought out of it at all until I watched a documentary on mindfulness given to me by a relative. It was about people suffering chronic conditions who were beyond medical cure and they took part in a mindfulness 8 week programme. It was so inspirational to see the effects as it truly seemed to transform their experiences, hence I decided to give it a go. I feel so incredibly blessed to have found it as it really helped to give me perspective and reduce my anxiety and stress which in time helped to manage and I would say reduce my symptoms. It is because of this experience that I came to enrol at King’s and am now part of a research project looking at the benefits of mindfulness in progressive MS. It is running from now onwards and there has been previous studies evidencing its efficacy in enhancing quality of life, so I really would urge anyone interested in mindfulness to take part. The courses an be quite expensive but obviously for the trial they are free and it’s over Skype to reduce travel problems, so you can do it from home. Would love to give you details of the project if anyone is interested so please do get in touch. The research project is funded by the MS Society and can be found on the website under mindfulness based cognitive therapy for Progressive MS if you type it in. I really hope it will be of much benefit to many as it has been to me and others. Best wishes Sula X
