Mc donald criteria

Hello could anybody explain what an objective lesion is

The guidelines say “objective clinical evidence of (a given number of) lesions”. So what is required is verifiable proof of a lesion - not an opinion that there are lesions that are the most likely cause of a problem. Proof can be by MRI (obviously) but the criteria do allow for the presence of a lesion to be sufficiently evidenced by examination. That would obviously be highly unusual in this day and age.

Would the hoffman, babinski and romberg be classed as objective lesions

By Hoffman, Babinski and Romberg, you are talking about symptoms, signs and tests for MS. These are not lesions. Lesions are spots in the brain and CNS that are discernible from MRI.

Have a look at Rizzos guide to the brain and MRI (a thread that’s at the top of this forum) for more info about lesions. It’s quite techie but is excellent.

Learning all about MS, the terms used and the whole mechanism of the nervous system is a complete mind bender when you are new to MS. Or even if you’ve had it a long time.
