Lumbar puncture & neck pain

I had a lumbar puncture done 6 days ago and suffering with severe neck pain , have to lie down to ease it .

Pain killers don’t make any difference, I’m drinking lots

should it be going by now ?

I think 6 weeks is a long time to have pain from a Lumbar puncture. I would see my GP. I know the headache after a Lumbar puncture is horrendous the only way I got any relief was from lying totally flat but it lasted days not weeks.

You should talk to your GP about this. TODAY. good luck it might just be a reaction but its worth having it checked out.

Hi

I had this headache of doom when I had my lumbar puncture many years ago. Lasted for a good few days ( I think about 11 to 14) and the only relief, like you say, is to lie down. Pain killers will not help by themselves. However, take them will a normal full sugar regular cola has proven to have some effect on this “headache from hell.”

If after a couple of weeks you still have it you can ask the hospital for a blood patch.

You will get there, just a bit of time is needed.

Take care,

Marty

can you contact the hospital where you had it done for advice -

I’d say definitely contact the hospital you had it done with for some follow up advice, however pain is to be expected. When I had my lumbar puncture, I had head and neck pain for over a week after it. I still today actually get the occasional nerve twinge where the needle went in.

But yeah, continue to drink lots of fluids, especially those with caffeine in and get lots of rest.

Thanks all , it’s been 7 days now , neck pain improved with rest yesterday, still there but better, but still have a sore back and headache Unfortunately I can’t drink any with caffeine as I have severe anxiety. So I stay clear Doc said give it a few more days , hopefully it will all improve soon
