I had a lumbar puncture one week ago. And since then, I am just crying. My body feels like after a horrible accident. Massive headach and back pain. Also pressure on my ear and a weird vibration sound in my ear. The headach got a bit better since the past days but I am still not able to do anything. I hope somebody felt the same, but can tell me everything will be fine. I am a bit worried, I will suffer with side effects forever.
I am just 19 and it was the mist horrible thing I did in my life.
Welcome to the forum, don’t worry about your English, it looks pretty good to me.
Lumbar Punctures are truly horrible. I still remember mine and that was nearly 25 years ago! At the age of 19 it seems truly unfair that you’ve had cause for one.
The headache is quite common. It does get better for most people, but can be more problematic for some. The headache along with some of your other symptoms might be caused by what’s called a ‘spinal headache’. This should be reported to your doctor, try phoning your neurologists secretary and ask for help/advice.
What can sometimes be needed is what’s called a ‘blood patch’, made of your own blood, an anaesthetist creates a kind of plaster for the place where the LP needle went in.
I do hope you get some help with these symptoms. It really must be making you miserable.
Hi Leon, well thats a family name for me, my father was Leon, and my grandson.
OK you should contact your GP and tell them, its not right you have a headache and back ache after a week. One thing you can do is rest but keep well hydrated. I would tell the GP anyway. But for now just rest, and hydration is very important ok. Your so young to have LP. I have to say i was worried about mine but that was a few years ago, i did feel afterwards like i had been run over by a bus, BUT the person who did the LP told me if i had a headache for more then a few days i should contact my GP.
oh that‘s so nice to hear about your „Leon history“
3 hours ago I thought like Leon don‘t ruin your body and go jogging. Well afterwards it was a mistake, I feel exhausted and my hwad hurts…
I just can‘t accept how my body feels at the moment.
Leon, in all seriousness, do NOT go jogging again or do any other heavy exercise until you talk to your doctor. They should have advised you about this possible side effect before getting the lumbar puncture. You MUST contact your doctor about your problems. Like Ssssue said, you probably need a blood patch.
yes I did and I felt really bad…
So my doctor gave me the papers and told me I have to go to the hospital and stay there. So my parents drove me and after a long time of waiting, they told me they can‘t keep me, because my life is not in danger and they are full. I felt so hurt… but I just took my stuff and my parents picked me up again. They are also really suffering from all this…
It slowly get‘s better, but I still feel horrible. Thank you for being so kind!
I can believe the hospitals are busy - the world over, but still, leaving you in pain!!
What I think you really need to do now is rest. And then rest some more. Don’t exercise (jogging? Are you crazy?) and let your parents look after you. This is what they are best at, looking after their children when they’re ill.
If you still feel as bad on Monday, go back to the hospital. Yes, they are busy, but there are some things that need treatment.
