[update] I got a call from the neuro’s secretary to cancel my appointment for Monday and move it to December 8th so now I have to wait another 2 and a bit weeks more to get my results of the LP My headaches have come back though, I’ve had them each morning after the LP and now I’m having them in the afternoon too. They’re pretty intense, I’ve tried lying down and spent the whole afternoon in bed but I’ve still got a throbbing head and the top of my neck where it joins my head. I’ve taken ibuprofen and have been having lots of water, is there anything else I can do to help with the headaches? They’re not much fun when you’ve got work to do!

Wow! Have just read your post and now it’s almost Friday…

Take a mix of paracetomol and ibuprofen for the headaches, it’s perfectly fine to take both and for many people works much better than only one type.

I feel a little soap opera coming on with your story…keep keeping us updated. Hope you feel better soon.

hi andy,

sorry i dont know what you could try for the headaches. perhaps see your gp because it could be due to having cerebro spinal fluid taken. i had a very bad reaction to my lp. i woke up vomiting! even though i’d hardly eaten.

you have really tried everything to get fit but its been causing new symptoms.

have you tried pilates? it’s great for people with ms because its all about core stability. it could also give you abs of steel which would be good for your future as an x man.

good luck and keep on being positive. i sing spasticus autisticus when my legs are doing their own thing. must sound like a loony but it cheers me up.

[/quote] Oh dear! Being sick in fun! I felt fine when I got back and went for a walk like I said but the next day and now this one I’ve had terrible headaches. My missus says it serves me right for not lying down when I got back from the hospital. I didn’t do the walk to Sainsburys yesterday and I only had headache in the morning but today I did the walk which was a little tiresome (more so than usual) and I’ve had proper brain-ache today and lots of pain in my neck. I had a look at Pilates, perhaps ill give that a bit more attention when I feel less stabby  Spasticus? Haha, my X-man name!

*Being sick Isn’t fun

If these headaches are new since the LP, then you need to see your GP. One of the potential side effects of LPs is a CSF leak which is caused when the hole the needle made doesn’t close up properly. This is easily fixed - so please go and find out if this could explain your headaches.

If it isn’t that, then your GP should be able to prescribe some stronger painkillers too.

Thanks a lot Karen, that really helps. I’ll make an appointment tomorrow morning. Andy x

[update] I made an appointment with the doctor and was told that the headaches were normal. He took my temperature and had a look in my eyes (not the longing look thankfully) and confirmed that I didn’t have an infection. He said he didn’t think that there was a leak and that I should have some bed rest and plent of caffeinated fluid. I’ve still got a headache if I try to sit at the computer or walk around so the daily walk to the supermarket is out :frowning: So now I’m spending the day in bed (oh the trauma!) with my convenient iPad trying to respond to emails and handle my black Friday sale from a horizontal position. Not ideal but at least my head isn’t going to explode so hopefully I won’t have the headache for much longer (I read somewhere that the longest a post lumbar puncture headache went on was 19 months (source: Post lumbar puncture headache: diagnosis and management - PMC) Thanks to everyone for your replies, they really helped. Andy

[update] My headache is almost gone and thankfully I can move from the horizontal position without feeling like me head will crack open! …new problem, some advice if you don’t mind please… I don’t know if it’s the cold weather or not, but today I’ve experienced what I can only describe as temporary Tourette’s . Every now and then, my arms or legs or head (or all three) will flail about. The more I try not to do it, the more it will do it. It’s almost like shivering in the cold but far more movement. It has only happened a few times today, it happened a few times in my sleep too (so im told) this week it’s not a big thing but has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I get body jerking, it affects my head, left leg and upper body, it’s worse when I’m tired. Sometimes, it’s so bad it almost throws me off the chair or causes me to make a noise like you have just been winded. My family used to worry about me when this happened, now they just turn the telly up! Taz :-()

And I so relate to the noise of being winded, I forgot to mention that it happens to me too. Are you taking any meds? I’ll call off the exorcism then  Thanks Taz Andy

Yeah, you only need to worry when your head spins a complete 360 and projectile green slime spouts forth from your mouth.

Baclofen helped calm it down a bit, but a too higher dose can make you feel weak and tired. Very funny MrsH…:-))
