How to spend my days

I am looking for suggestions of how to fill my days! I am currently on sick leave while work sort out I’ll health retirement.

The thing is I have always worked full time so now I don’t really know what to do with myself. I am now visually impaired due to 3 episodes of optic neuritis so can’t drive. Live in a village with no real transport links. Balance is shocking so can’t really go out alone.

Any suggestions gratefully received

depends on what you enjoy doing, indulge yourself if you can. is there anything you’ve been meaning to take up but never had the time?

How about drawing / painting? Crafts? Gardening (as much as you’re able) Writing? Learn a musical instrument?

Or teach a skill you have to someone else - you’re still a valuable person with life skills What work did you do? Can they keep you on as a trainer?

Catch up on those albums you’ve been meaning to listen to…

When I retired on ill health, age 47, I had to learn how to relax…cos I was always on the go.

So maybe first thing for you is to get some relaxation cds, an eye mask and some peace and quiet from phones, tv, family, barking dogs etc and find your chi! I think its your chi you have to find. If not, find summat else instead thats calm!!

Other things might be a tad difficult with your limitations.

What about seeing if you qualify for Direct Payments, to pay for a carer to take you out in their car? Or is there a family member or friend who could do that?

Is swimming a possibility, with a competent swimmer to look after you?

Any good?

Its hard when you have time off sick, especially a long time when you are used to working full time but after a while you wonder how you found time to work,i kid you not !!! i had to give up working at 32 but i soon found ways to fill my days if you are just off sick just enjoy the time if you can, best way you can.

Thanks all

I think Polls is right I need to take some time to find my chi then I will be able to find something that appeals to me.

Never been very creative or artistic and my vision is so bad at the moment can’t distinguish between colours It would be dreadful!

I guess it’s typical of me I have always been busy now I am trying to rush retirement really do need to slow down. It’s usually the fatigue that wipes me out need to pace myself.

I think time spent on working to improve your condition is never wasted and some physio exercises might help with those balance problems. The core exercises are particularly good for stability and doing what you can manage is an awful lot better than doing nothing.
