How old were you when diagnosed with MS?

Hi, I have just being diagnosed at age 41 and the neurologist said that I am a little bit older for it. I was just curious why she said this!

If you have MS the other Neurologist you’ll see in September will likely be a MS specialist. Other Neurologists may be able to say MS but it should be a MS specialist to confirm the type and discuss on going treatment. Just have to be patient and wait till September. Sux but not as bad as some that have waited years for a diagnosis

Doctors refer to older people who get a diagnosis at an older age as late onset MS (LOMS).

It’s not the usual age but happens enough they actually have a specific term for it. When I was on Tysabri one of the ladies there had been diagnosed at just 12 years old. Things out of the norm aren’t impossible just unlikely. Like with all of us its just a process of elimination.

EDIT: decided to grab the actual term mentioned at the start after I confirmed

RRMS 2009 dx aged 38. Still in denial…

Hi, 45 when symptoms began…diagnosed just 2 years ago…I know crazy in it…I’m 69!

I was 39 and diagnosed after 2 completely different relapses in 3 months.
5 years previous to that, I did have a bit of a numb face - I saw the doctor who referred me to a neuroligist but I cancelled the appointment as it had got better!

29 when diagnosed

31 now

I was diagnosed in my early 30’s - 54 this September - last MRI said my RRMS was stable - thankfully

I was diagnosed when I was 53 and the Neurologist at the time said it probably began ten years earlier but couldn’t diagnose after just one episode. I’d gone numb and a little weak on my right side. After a few weeks they said I had an infection in my spinal fluid. The Neurologist looked extremely puzzled by that.

Diagnosed recently at 41 rrms

Hi, 2007 aged 47, I was told I’d lived with it since I was 30, after being dx’d with Iritis, when I was dx’d my neuro said I was old to get it, now I know that isn’t true, mine neuro isn’t very good anyway, 8mths after being dx’d I was told it was spms, that was like being told all over again :frowning:

Hi Lina I was 47 when i got diagnosed

I was 35 when diagnosed 30 years ago

I was 41 and my sister was 20.

I was 27, now a 28 a year later and still probably in denial. I am on tysabri x

I was diagnosed in 2018 after seeing different doctors, physio, musculosceletal clinic etc. My footdrop and weak leg was getting steadily worse and I was finally given an mri that showed one large brain lession and several spinal ones. The neurologist looked at my history and diagnosed ppms saying it looked like I had had it for 10 years…53 when diagnosed.

I was 36. Almost 67 now but still here :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
