Help with results

Hello Rob

To be honest, the exact results of a lumbar puncture are beyond the capabilities of most of us on this site (I believe).

Having normal MRI scans would normally rule out MS, but the LP would confirm or otherwise that decision. Up to 95% of people with MS have Oligoclonal bands in their CSF as found on LP. Also, the blood taken at the same time as the LP should be negative for O bands. However, I’m not at all certain whether gamma restriction bands are oligoclonal or not.

I wouldn’t expect that a neurologist could ‘miss something’ relevant to your diagnosis.

What you should be aware of though is that there are other disorders that share symptoms with MS. So it’s entirely likely that you don’t have MS, but something else which presents in similar ways.

Why not see your GP for a more informed view of the results you’ve had and a view on where you go from here?

Best of luck.

Sue
