Hi all, need help/advice, has anyone been prescribed Baclofen? Had an appointment with my Consultant last week, he suggested I add to my already large list of drugs, another Baclofen starting at 5mg once a day at night for two weeks, increase to 10mg once a day at night there after, this is to help with the spasticity of my left leg, which keeps me wake at night. Started these Saturday, last night I was suffering with increable pain back and front at kidney leave this started at 12.30 last night.didnt call anyone but feel like s---- today, before i go to anyone medical thought I would ask you all. Thanks Deborah
Hi Deborah
Just had a quick squint at Baclofen reported side effects and couldn’t really see anything that matched what you describe. My rule of thumb for any abdominal pains is to hope they are to do with the bowel, and will ease over time, especially if you have any success on the loo.
I have been taking Baclofen for some time now, for precisely the same reasons as you, and really haven’t noticed anything untoward that I could blame it for. I started on 5mg, twice a day. This has recently been reduced to once a day, although I was started on Gabapentin as well.
Hope your pain has eased, or eases very soon.
Hi kevadams Thanks for replying and taking the time to check out side effects, I am taking a number for another tablets as well. I will wait and see if nature helps(if you know what I mean). Thanks again Deborah
On the other hand… don’t hesitate to ask for medical assistance if you need to. That’s what they’re there for. Are you able to get phone call consultations with you GP, or could you call your ms nurse?
Kev
Hi, baclofen is a drug used by many, many people with MS…it is taken for both spasms and spasticity.
I was on it for several years and only recently weaned myself off it, due to a change in circumstances.
Ususally docs tell patients to find there own dosage, once they get used to it.
You are only on a low dose, but if you think it has caused unpleasant side effects, then speak to your GP. It is taken in doses up to around 70mg a day.
The main thing to watch out for is that whilst reducing stiffness and spasms, it can weaken your muscles and cause falls…but this dosnt happen to everyone,
luv Pollx
Hi Deborah
I take baclofen for spasms 20mg at night, but I had to build up really slowly to that dose, and Poll is right, it can cause weakness.
Whilst it does not stop the problem, it takes the edge off.
Take care

Thanks Kev/Poll and Pam. Have been a sleep most of the day, in fact have only just got up, not surprising as I didn’t get much sleep last night. I seem to me burping a lot, smells like bad eggs, but think I have had this before think it’s from the Pregabalin so don’t think I can blame the Baclofen but time will tell. Thank you all for being there. Deborah
