Like the others great news for the PIP result. I’ve been self catheterising for nearly three years now. I resisted for a long time, but it’s not difficult or unpleasant.
The nurse brought me boxes of three different makes of catheter along with three different mirrors and info leaflets and told me she’d return the following week to teach me. The idea being that we’d do this on my bed.
So, following advice from someone on this site, I got on my bed, with mirrors to hand to try to get in a position where I could examine that part of my anatomy in the mirror. It proved impossible to get my legs in position sand keep them there, then get a miirror in position and myself where I could see clearly. This proved impossible, so putting a catheter in the equation as well…
I’m sure you get the idea. So I took the catheters into the bathroom, sat on the loo, and did it by touch. I was really lucky and hit the right spot first time, but that wasn’t often the case in the early days. Sometimes I’d have two or three attempts then give up and try again later. And as someone mentioned a number of catheters ended up in the bin having failed to hit the spot!
Now it’s easy, although there’s still the odd time when I perform like I’ve never handled one of the blasted things!
i now also have Botox on my bladder, and that and ISC. has transformed my life.
Good luck!
