First neuro appointment

Hi all

So I had my initial neuro consultation this morning (privately). Had a chat about my symptoms and then an examination. He told me I examined ‘well’ but wants to do an mri of brain/spine to rule out anything structural. He seemed very positive which is a good thing in one respect but in another, makes me wonder what on earth could be causing all this… I suppose its futile trying to second guess but its hard not too.

Hope everyone is doing ok?

I hate being stuck in ‘limbo’ it’s great that your able to go private … I’m very lucky my initial app was within 5 days, MRI in 8 weeks and my next neurologist app is 21st June so think I’m quite quick really.

May I ask what symptoms you have? When did they start?

I know what you mean although you dont want anything serious to be wrong you need an answer

Hi Jo

Thanks for your message. I decided to ‘go private’ after being told to expect a 16 wk wait on NHS and at the moment my symptoms mean I cannot work, so the £250 consultation seemed sensible in the circumstances.

I’ve had a numb hand since January 2015 and intermittent ‘off balance’/vague head moments too since around then too. However after an infection a few weeks ago, I’ve now got numbness in other areas too (right foot moving up my leg/lips/genital area), my balance is awful (feel like I’m walking (which I can barely do) on a moving ship), fatigue, weakness, blurred vision and other odd sensations (burning in scalp/creeping feelings up my legs at night). GP referred me as thought the infection might have exacerbated some underlying neuro condition.

The neuro I saw today didn’t seem particularly worried but, as a healthcare professional myself, your starting point is generally one of positivity unless proven otherwise.

I have been told to expect MRI in a couple of weeks (again privately) and will see neuro for follow-up afterwards.

What’s your story?

Hi Jane wow your going through it!!!

mine started 9 weeks ago ( although I can now place things over the past 10 years) I started with vertigo a few days later numbness on stomach, arm & leg all left side fast forward a week severe muscle spasms, numbness , twitches on both sides prescribed amatripeline to take at night since then although the severe pain has gone I’m left with muscle spasms , numbness on & off now although feeling heaps better the eye pain I have is awful so seeing an optician tomorrow,I’ve had an MRI yesterday and have neuro in a few weeks ( a different one to one previous) so it’s a waiting game my gp have said they suspect MS my mum has MS and an aunt they also suspect MS but stuck in limbo just now.

everything points to ms but I’m not so sure I just can’t explain what’s happened/happening to me my bloods are all fine

so no idea lol

Hi Jo

how did the opticians go? Hoping you get some resolution too one way or the other soon - limbo is not a great place to be at all… Think I’ve read somewhere that risk of MS is slightly higher if you have a relative with the disease as compared to the general population but hoping in your case that’s not so

sending positive thoughts

Jane

Hi Jane

thanks for asking all went fine I have severe dry eyes so have been given ointment to use every night to help.

any news your end? I think I’m over the relapse if it was that and feeling great although still some symptoms but over the worse!!

Glad optician went well and that you are feeling improved. I’ll have a better day every 2-3 days but then crash back with a day when everything flaring again. Mobility remains really bad regardless, it’s as if my body has forgotten how to walk properly. Waiting for an MRI date but with BH weekend no news as yet.

Take care
