First appointment worries

Hi guys I’m new year

So around 7/8 months ago I started with tingling in my left foot, a few days later the sensation went up my leg and by the next day it was both legs! This lasted around a week before then travelling to my right arm! I went to the doctors and they dismissed me and said it was a trapped nerve

Around a month later the whole right side of my face went numb and every time I bent my head forward I was getting a weird sensation down the back of my legs, not pain more like a shock? Following on from that I lost vision in my right eye for around 5 minutes , since then I’ve been getting hazy vision but my optician has tested my eyes and my prescription hasn’t changed

Also when I go to the spa ect any sort of heat makes me feel like my legs aren’t my own, also the hot weather really made me feel weak and jellified? If that’s even a word

I went back to the doctors who got in touch with James cook neurology, they told my doctor to send me for a scan before they would see me

I had an MRI and was called into the doctors the morning after to be greeted by an apology from the doctor who said the report shoes a lot of damage spots to the lesions in my Brain…I’ve now been referred for an emergency appt which is in 4 weeks time

What can I expect to happen with me already having my scan done? Will there be anymore sort of intrusive tests I’m
Extremely nervous I’ve been reading about spinal taps ect and absolutely hate needles so the thought of it is making me sick

Thanks in advance
Natalie

Hi Natalie,

You may not need a lumbar puncture, I didn’t have a one to diagnose my MS, I had the scan first as you have, then the neuro appointment to deliver the news.

The tests the neuro did just involved physical movements with my eyes, arms and legs. Nothing particularly intrusive.

If you look up “diagnosing MS NHS” (assuming you’re in the UK) it states the criteria on there. I don’t think you’ve anything to worry about.

All the best with your appointment, hope it goes well.

Thank you for that it’s made me feel a bit better, I’ve no idea why the idea of getting a needle in my back scares me so much

Yes im going to have a look more in depth at the forums ect

Thank you again  x

I am sorry that you are having such a worrying time. You have a lot going on there, and I hope that the doctors get to the bottom of things soon and that they have enough clinical and scan data to identify what is the matter without further diagnostic tests. In any case, no one is going to make you have an LP if you don’t want one. For what it’s worth, my own LP, 20+ years ago, was fine, but it was optional then as now.

Thank you very much, yeah it’s all been quite a lot to take in especially since it started a few weeks after I had my first child so all of this upon being a new mam has been challenging to say the least but I’m thankful I’ve gotten an appointment so
Quickly so I’m not waiting months and months like some people :frowning: x
