Facial pain- TN

Allo all…guess who

I know Trigeminal Neuralgia is common so wondering about others experiences of this I had sudden onset of facial pain last night. Its on side where most of my altered sensations are. It felt like someone had punched me on the cheek and there was some temple pain and bit of pain at top teeth just under the cheek It was throbbing for hours rather than shooting ot stabbing. I would think (ordinarily) it would align with sinus or migraine…but have no other sinus symptoms

. The pain was bit burny at points but as i say altered sensations are mainly that side. So wondering if it is a change in those sensations to develop pain with tingling. Or if it sounds like TN. Any description of that seems horrific and people seem in no doubt. Pain came back just now right under eye where glasses would sit and has developed to face and temples too

It responded to paracetamol for about an hour, in respect of taking edge of but has come back.

However, in the last hour got horrific shooting pains in inner ear, which have left it feeling bit earachy and burning. I dont want to start anti seizure meds without having some kind of expertise involved in all of this, but at same time am heartily fed up with all of this

For 5 weeks now i have had circular presentation ebb and flow of same symptoms and now becoming increasingly despondent and fed up, Moreso as i know from reading and others experience that progressing anything takes forever. The thought of enduring ‘this’ for months makes me want to go to bed and not get up

Sorry for the negativity, just struggling a bit just now …

Hi

Sorry to hear about this. I suffer from pain and tension in my jaw which I believe to be TMJ although never diagnosed. However, I did stumble across TN and it sounds truly awful. However, my understanding is it is extremely rare. It is normally associated with MS but only a small % get it. Hopefully the world can start returning to normality to enable people to start getting the treatment they need faster

Hi My first MS symptom was trigeminal neuralgia and I’m sorry to say your pain does sound like TN. Mine started as a little niggle in my gum manageable with paracetamol but it did progress to worse pain and now I take anti seizure drugs. The feeling of having been punched in the cheek and also the piercing ear pain are both symptoms I get. I also get numb lips and a burning pain right down the side of my tongue Your GP can prescribe anti seizure drugs which could potentially help you so I’d consider those

Thanks but I think it is unlikely as I was not diagnosed with MS and The cause of TN is damage of the nerve sheath associated with MS or compression of the nerve from a tumour. My face pain is likely to due to my anxiety

I was replying to the OP. Sorry for any confusion
