Just come home from neurologist today for results of MRI brain and neck. Clear.
Before the MRI she said she thinks it’s migraines.
I have had three separate episodes last year and the last being the worst: 3 months of severe fatigue, eye problems, tingling in arms legs and face, burning legs, walking/balance problems. I had migraines in there, but very distinct migraines that last 20 mins and leave me with a headache. I only got to the neurologist as the last episode was trailing off.
I find it hard to believe that a migraine would last three months and the symptoms be different (in some ways) every day.
I think she thinks I’m a hypochondriac. And didn’t know how to end the appointment this morning. She just said migraines, I can give you something but there’s nothing else I can do.
I’ve been tested for everything. B12. Vit D. Etc etc. It was private, so they ran everything. All clear.
I asked what if it happens again, she said well I’ll see you but there’s not much I can do.
I just feel really dejected. In the way that, if something has shown up, I can do something about it, there’d be a plan. But now I’m feeling lost. I know if it is ms, it’s a case of waiting for damage to show.
But I’m worrying that I’m crazy. I suppose I have a baseline with my MRI now, so if anything happens from now on I’ve got a comparison.
I just wondered if anyone had this experience, being fobbed off with migraines and probably fibro… And no answers.
I see that you mention you have had B12 and D levels checked and that the results came back as normal. Unfortunately the levels that the NHS have set their guidelines at, are below what we actually should be at for optimal health, especially Vitamin D. I am a huge advocate of Vitamin D, especially at this time of year, although I do supplement it all year. Tingling in arms and legs, eye problems, balance issues, migraines, facial tingling and numbness, chronic pain are all symptoms of low Vitamin D, even though the levels set in this country would suggest that you are within optimal range.
Do you have a copy of the results?
I know many people who have been suffering just as you have and after a few months of taking a good daily dose of Vitamin D, their symptoms disappeared.
I would suggest you take a look at the Vitamin D Council website for further information and find the Facebook group Vitamin D Deficiency Syndrome. I take Drs Best Vitamin D gelcap 5000iu per day along with magnesium and it has helped so much.
It does sound like you have been through the mill Kate (and Oliver).
I definitely like Kates husbands’ point. You might just find that you look back to this time in future years and wish you’d made the most of relative good health.
I sit in my wheelchair, being pushed along the seafront and sometimes I just think about all the legs and feet that are walking, running, skipping in front of me. I want to tell them to make the most of what they have. I’m not at all sure I made the most of my health.
And just in case the neurologist has got it wrong, and in a few years you are diagnosed with something neurological that is not migraine (maybe MS, maybe something else), in the meantime, don’t just make the most of your heath, improve it. By this, in particular I mean strengthen your core muscles, this doesn’t just mean your stomach, but your abdominals, your quads, your hips, butt, everything. If you have problems later, the better your muscular system is, the better you’ll be able to deal with neurological deficits.
And by all means, get your vitamin levels checked, B12 is another biggie, a deficiency of which can cause neurological seeming problems.
Thank you so much for your insightful reply. I really appreciate your advice.
I have been tested for absolutely everything else and all clear. So unfortunately it’s a waiting game.
I have been thinking about my lifestyle, you’re right about core strength! I really really need to focus on this and eating well. Sadly not knowing about the tachycardia for two years caused weight loss, no appetite and overall weakness so my muscles have gone to pasture. So now I’m on meds for that I can start swimming and eating right. So I will take your words and remember them. Thank you.
