Confused

Hi all,

I am feeling slightly bewildered at the moment, back in 2011 I had complete numbness covering the whole left side of my body, the doctor referred me straight to the hospital for an MRI, and being told I had to stay until they had looked at the results, I was informed that they were expecting that I had, had a stroke however the MRI showed white patches of demylination, and I was referred to a neurologist.

I had what felt like a million blood tests all of which came back negative, the neurologist said he was 90% sure it was MS and that I needed to have an LP, due to other health conditions (not related) I couldn’t have an LP until 2014, this came back negative however with high levels of protein.

When going back to see neuro he said that at the moment you don’t have MS however that isn’t to say you wont develop it, I just left thinking I dont have MS.

Since then I have ignored things I probably shouldn’t have, and kept telling myself it will go away.

a few months ago I couldn’t get up the stairs as I didnt have the strength in my leg, more often than not when I try to relax i get a pain i cant describe in the same leg culminating in it kicking out by itself.

Recently over the last 10 days my left side has again gone numb, and I have been struggling to remember words which is quite embarrassing.

I know I need to go back to the doctors, but Im scared of what they may say and going through the whole testing process again

Hi

It’s totally understandable that you are feeling confused and scared about getting this checked out. However it sounds like you really need to see the Doctor to get checked out. If it is MS surely it’s better to know what you’re dealing with and start on medication to reduce further damage? Sometimes fear of the unknown is worse than knowing what you are dealing with and being able to make a plan of action. Take care of yourself and try not to stress if possible as that is likely to make symptoms worse and make a list of your symptoms for when you see the Doctor. X

hi goldie

you know the answer already don’t you?

get to the doctors, get back to your neuro.

you might have CIS (clinically isolated syndrome) which basically means that you have MS without the M.

either way the sooner you see the medics the sooner you can be treated.

Thanks for your replies,

I have an appointment with the drs on Saturday, it’s only a registration spot as my does have closed so have had to register with a different surgery. Do you think should I mention it then or make another appt?

I’m guessing I have to get a new referral to a neurologist and start the waiting again. X
