clinically vulnerable but not extremely

Hi, long time since I’ve been here. I’ve had MS 12.5 years.

During the first lockdown they defined people with MS as “clinically vulnerable” and I was paid to shield for 12 weeks from my public facing role.

Now it seems there is no guidance for us. Am I missing something? Thank you for any help.

Hi, did you get a shielding letter?

MSers who arent on any DMDs are any more vulnerable than those without MS.

Not received a phone call from my school yet but all the research I have done says we need to go back to work. So this time the number of people contracting this virus can go from 5,000 in March to over 50,000 now and we were told to stay off. Now with the numbers sky high we can go back. It doesn’t make sense. Unfortunately I didn’t have letter last time as I refuse all treatment as the side effects from previous treatments made me ill. Not sure I should be told that therefore it makes me safe to return to work

I had Lemtrada back in 2009-10. So not currently on anything. Just doesn’t make sense, back in March we were told we had to make a special effort to social distance and as that is impossible in my job I was given time off. Now we aren’t mentioned at all and the situation is even worse.

If you didn’t have a shielding letter last time then there was no need to shield. The same applies this time. Social distancing and good hygiene is the name of the game.

Hi all, anyone else on DMD Tecfidera? New to forum xx

Hi, been on a DDM drug over a year and never received a letter

I guess for all of us with MS we have to be sensible, careful and do all possible to stay safe.x

Hi Carole thanks for your comment (hope ok to call you this?). May I ask what treatment if any you were on prior to Tec? Tecfidera is the first DMD treatment for me.

Hi, I’ve been on Tec for past 2 years. Great med in my experience, no side effects, bloods all good. I take them twice a day with food. Most will only experience flushing or an upset stomach. There are of course much rarer side effects, but, for me the benefits far outweigh the risks. As an aside, being on a DMD does not have to mean you are at anymore or less risk than those who are not. It will depend on the DMD, your overall health and such things as co-morbidity.

Bel105, this might be worth a read. https://www.mssociety.org.uk/about-ms/treatments-and-therapies/disease-modifying-therapies/covid-19-coronavirus-and-ms You’ll see that Tec doesn’t suppress the immune system.
