I have had MS for over 30 years
I have now been diagnosed with Cauda Equine Syndrome. I am terrified but know i have to do something. I have been offered either surgey or Lumbar injection. Any advive please…
I had a laminectomy years ago and that worked out ok, but your condition sounds rather more urgent and any medical advice is best left to the experts.
All the best with whatever you decide.
This is from the NHS site.
" Cauda equina syndrome requires emergency hospital admission and may require emergency surgery, because the longer it goes untreated, the greater the chance it will lead to permanent paralysis and incontinence."
Hello, I had never heard of Cauda E and certainly don’t know enough about the two alternatives. Have you been told anything about the pros and cons. I hope that either course brings you great results and relief from symptoms
Thank you, seriously, for mentioning Cauda E. I shall learn more about it.
Hi all, I’ve just been in hospital after having a Lumbar puncture ( 9 times they tried) .My walking wasn’t good prior to this but now it’s absolute hell. I’ve become incontinent of both . Numbness in my left bottom cheek down to my knee, fizziness down to my toes . Pain that is like being cattle prodded at least 12 times in a row .They’ve diagnosed Stenosis if my spine and Caudia EquinA, Surgery for the stenosis is less than 40% positive and depending on that surgery for the CE even less .Hence I’m nit happy to go ahead at present .
Spinal surgeon cannot promise any improvement and possibly a more negative outcome.
Physio has suggested some leg strengthening excersise to prove how in a week I will have gone down hill v improvement -great and the possibility within 3 x months if not eve. Being able to use a Walker to walk .
I’m a fighter so I will do the Excercise to try and price them wrong .
This is a complete change if lifestyle again for me as I’ve fought tooth & nail til now . This feels like a prison sentence ![]()
