Being able to get a diagnosis other then gp

Hi there

How does one suffering from signs symptoms of ms get dianosis other then dr especially if not safe to go through dr due to the dr and drs repercussions on patients where ever one settles to date. Can anyone help

Sorry, didn’t understand any of that!

GP may refer you to a Neurologist for a diagnosis. Only Neurologists can give an official diagnosis. If you suspect a GP isn’t taking you seriously, get a second opinion from another GP either in the same practice or from another practice.

I went to my gp who initially did lots of blood tests, and mri scans, then I was referred to nuro.

No they are not taking it seriously and I have been ill with all signs symptoms for awhile now. One trusts their GP. Then the same GP is the cause of holding you back in some ways. Also sadly through the NHS whatever gets written about you during consultations whether the information be accurate about one or not and stays on the system. That is then with a person which ever NHS GP they go to. Then one has to fight to get a second oppnion change DR surgeries while getting futher ill and in the process trying to be reffered. I have had people use my information against me and not want to correct it. Am I up for the fight lets see my health while looking after my disabled son is more then enough. Is there anyone that i can see neurologist tests that I can try and go for that won’t pre judge me?

Or do I have to go through the NHS. I am only on about the treatment I have had on NHS what that has caused. I don’t mean every part of it. Only areas that relate to me in my experience to date. How does one get refferal to a neurologist without GP is there any other way that doesn’t cost the earth or stress beyond what one can handle while having responsibilities of family. I am aware i am not alone and other people would have maybe had issues with trying to get a diagnosis. I am not the only one judgement or no judgement.

Sorry, but you’ve got to get a second opinion.

That could be from another GP in the same practice, or changing practice. Both irritating and a nuisance, but no other way. You could try the “N-word” on them.

Negligence.

If you have gone to them with a medical issue and they have ignored it, rejected it or gaslighted you in whatever way, if subsequently that issue is found to be true (by means of a diagnosis), that would make them negligent, wouldn’t it? As soon as you mention negligence, you will have their full attention because the last thing they want is to be sued. They’re more likely to give you the referral you want, just to get rid of you. No matter, you’d have your referral and if it turns out to be a correct diagnosis, you don’t need those GP’s any more, because you’d be dealing with your MS Team. Alternatively, it might not be MS but at least you’d know.

Thank you for this advice. Someone is actually trying to help me ive been lied to all sorts from sections of nhs and la regarding support for ny disabled son.

I will do this asap

Thank you

As soon as I can get support for my son ill be able to follow things through a little better. The toll it has had on my mental health in terms of trust issues and believing paticular services has to a good extent taken its toll on me.

Hopefully this will give you some hope, I had been, like you going to the docs for several yrs and previous surgery also, long story moved house and ended up back at original docs, this was '98 when you couldn’t just pick and choose! Fortunately I saw a locum, who was only doing 2 mornings a week, having seen all 7 other doctors at the surgery, at last she said, there is clearly something going on, lets start with an MRI! They were still raising money for one at the local hospital! Does seem unbelievable now! Average waiting time was 7/8 months, so we

As everyone says has to be neurologist for diagnosis, Keep going, mind you at the time I wasn’t in the right trust for beta inteferon, so just steroids for me! Hope you get some answers sincerely hope not ms!
