Hi I just recently turned 20 and was in hospital for sudden numbness on the left side of my face, arms and legs. I have been fairly unwell over the last year being admitted to hospital for various other reasons. I have suffered with brain fog, bad urinal retention, dizziness and loss of balance for the past year and just in feb I have been having intermittent numbness on the left side of my body. Alongside extreme fatigue and unable to swallow and speak at times.
As I am young doctors do not take me seriously and I am stuck in bed. I am unable to plan ahead as the fatigue can be so bad I struggle to go to the loo. I have no yet identified any triggers but did anyone experience similar symptoms.
Doctors in A&E told me it could be my contraception pill (mini pill) causing these effects but the numbness has continued even after I’ve stopped taking it.
The medications I am currently in cause non of these side effects. Any advice would be freaky appreciated- from a young worrier studying to work in the NHS but feels like NHS has failed young people
Hi Mia, I’m so sorry you are struggling and struggling to be heard.
Coming off the pill, may take a while to get it out of your system…maybe things will improve in time.
Keep banging on doors to get heard.

hi Mia
try very hard to let stress go.
easier said than done but i think that stress is a major trigger.
It makes existing symptoms much worse.
Anxiety also does a lot of harm.
being unable to wee is not right. I don’t know whether covid means that the bladder and bowel clinics are now shut but they would do an ultrasound scan of your lower abdomen to see if and how much you are retaining.
They would teach you how to self catheterise which is wonderful because you know that when your bladder is completely empty you have a couple of hours without running to the loo.
I really don’t know if a nurse from another service could help you (eg district nurses) ask your doctor.
Are you aware of how poorly a UTI makes anyone feel (with or without MS)?
Ask your GP for a test kit.
It would be ideal if what you are going through is just a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) that a course of anti-biotics would get rid off.
Now about your dizziness - have you got low blood pressure (hypo-tension)? I do and it has caused me to faint.
We hear a lot about the dangers of High Blood Pressure (hyper-tension) But any deviance from the correct blood pressure causes problems.
Where are you studying to be a nurse?
Oh Mia I wish I could help you. Damn Covid!
Take care and make good use of your GP.

Thank you so much for advice. I really do appreciate it, I will definitely get more tests done
Thank you so much Carole, I appreciate you advice I will definitely look into it, I’ve had reoccurring kidney infections since January so that might be the issue and causing other symptoms and stress. I always get really ill on antibiotics and I think my body is fed up taking them every single month. But need to keep a positive outlook
Mia
Ask your doctor for a different anti-biotic and mention how ill they make you feel.
There are dozens of different anti-biotics.
Good luck
