Hi I am in the process of looking for a new job after 10 years with my current employer. I have had MS for 8 years now and I would describe it as moderate symptoms RRMS. My life is still quite active and I am desperate for a job that will challenge and excite me! I have stayed with my current employer mainly because of the safety net it provides me, however I can no longer lie to myself. I have been completing applications and have contacted recruitment consultants but I have not disclosed at any point of my condition. I am feel like my admittance will act as a means to discriminate against me. Please can someone advise me on the best course of action before I get to an interview stage.
Hi
I have also applied for jobs since being diagnosed. I would say tell them, they aren’t allowed to discriminate against you especially if you can say look I’ve been doing this other job fine for the last 8 years. I would also say if they are part of the 2 ticks scheme use it. I have applied for a lot of jobs that are and if you meet minimum requirements you are guaranteed an interview. I hate having this thing but if I can get something back from it then I will take it.
Hope you’re applications go well!
Thanks CraftyLady
i have not heard about this Scheme I will look it up!
Hi
Please be honest about your MS with any potential new employers.
Unlikely I know but if you had a relapse shortly after starting or before you pass your probation at least they would understand.
They may also need to know for any insurance purposes and also for occupational health reasons, they need to make changes to make you able to do your job.
Don’t let ‘sods law’ affect any new job and make sure any new employer understands your potential needs. They are not allowed to discriminate, its illegal.
All the best with your new career search xx
