ALT liver function test

Hi, I have SPMS and I’ve been taking Siponimod for about 16 months. I don’t really have side effects but my ALT liver function tests are high.

Before I started the treatment the result was 23 (high side of normal is 55).

For over a year my levels have increased apart from in November when it dipped, and the only thing I did different was to stop milk and then restarted - no idea why.

Anyway my consultant suggesed changing my medication to injections - which I dont really want, so I asked if I could try stopping milk again to see if this was the cause of the levels dropping - he was dubious, but would see how it went.

Sure enough, my levels came down. The consultant didn’t think they would come down much more but was willing to wait - they came down again - now at 67!

Again my stay of execution was postponed. I went on the internet to research how to lower ALT levels. I was told;
Reduce alcohol -I hardly drink
Drink coffee - yes
Exercise more - started on my treadmill and Im now up to 10 mins a day
Loose weight - 7lb now gone
increase berries and leafy green veg - drinking a smoothie daily
Stop smoking - I dont smoke

I did all this to lower my ALT levels and i was sure the nurse would tell me they were under 50 and I could stay on the tablets.

Imagine my shock/horror when she told me the levels had gone up to 105!!!

I want the biggest hot chocolate made with milk topped with cream, marshmallows and sprinkles you have seen!

I am now waiting to hear what the consultant says about my medication.

sorry about the rant xx
