Anything happened re getting assessed/help yet?

Booudsx

spoke to the GP yesterday which resulted in several referrals which is not much help right now…

You are in such a fix Tom.

Are there any voluntary groups in your area?

It will need for you to explain exactly what kind of help you need.

Good luck, The carer’s assessment and eventually the hoist will be a back saver for you.

Unfortunately the way the NHS works is by referrals and they do take time.

Our Carers Group does have emergency help should we need it, for a 4 day emergency back up plan. But \I guess you need to be in the group. What about looking into this?

I am not sure what groups are nearby for me… i will check that out. Not easy to get to one if i find one as i am my wifes only help so i am pretty much stuck indoors with her too

Did you speak to anyone re benefits yet, as with most things they take a long time to come through (even if you do qualify) so best get the ball rolling.

Best wishes

Where do you live Tom? Here in Birmingham we have something called Carers Emergency Response Service (CERS)

There is lots of advice on their website, worth a look even if you don’t live in Brum

They will come out in a emergency and provide care for someone if their normal carer can’t for some reason, You do need to register with them first to get this emergency help. Maybe there is something similar where you live?

Hi again Tom, go on CARERS UK. You will find a group near you. Ring them…ASK for help.

Quick update, finally getting somewhere with social services etc… A care plan is being organised, hospital bed ordered along with hoist… its only taken over 2 years of constant lifting and all of a sudden they understand the issues…

We have to set up a bedroom downstairs which will be a challenge but it is progress at least.

Thanks for all you advice, its been very much appreciated

Good to hear Tom, glad you’re getting sorted.

I’m also trying to get a hospital bed but not sure how we can make one fit in our house, leaves hubby with nowhere to sleep!

Bed is actually being delivered tomorrow… its amazing how things come together isnt it !

So i have been moving stuff around today to try and accommodate it

I think i will be sleeping in a chair before very long… not great but needs must

We got rid of our double bed and now sleep separately, but next to each other. Hubby has a regular single bed and I have the hospital one. It leaves little room for manoeuvre in my wheelchair. The house has lots of scrapes and dents everywhere!

well the bed and hoist were delivered last week and the team came out to demonstrate its use today, (delayed due to family bereavement)

Firstly the slings ordered are not suitable for my wife so replacements have been ordered, the hospital bed remote was not working so that failed too…

You cant make it up at times can you
