Advice on writing a will

Hi, my wife suggested we write a will. Problem is I am unemployed and I can’t justify the £200 fee she was quoted. So any advice on cheap or how we go about writing our own wills wouldbe greatly appreciated.

MoneySavingExpert has some decent-looking stuff on cheap and free wills. Might be worth a look.

Where we used to live, in the north west of England, the local solicitors periodically offered free will writing. It might be worth asking around.

Which produce a guide to writing your own and WH Smith (as was) used to have a book on it. Why not try your local library and CAB?

Morning @PaulMcGaw where we live in Huddersfield, you can do this for free in Wills week, which is normally around March/April, also you could get in touch with the MS society as they work with some solicitors who if you leave a donation to the MS society, doesn’t have to be a lot you get the will written for free, hope this helps,

Thank you for all of the advice. I now have it narrowed down to one thar my wife was told about. £200 fee from a local solicitor, Martin Lewis one at £19.99 and the MS Society one.

I will talk to my wife about the pros and cons. I think the MS Society one is the winner but need to make sure that my wife agrees. Been down that road before where the options of ‘what ever you think’ I get the blame or the even worse one ‘what ever you want’

While I maybe right not going to do it until we both talk and agree. The dreaded ‘whatever’ is a dare that I won’t win.

Hi

Different charities do a free will week every year. The hope is that you will leave a donation in your will. Online search will tell you when they are. I think there is one in November

Cheers Fergal,

My wife and me are settled on MS Society now. It uses the lawyer we bought out house with, so she is happy it is legit, and we can use the solicitor she was talking about last week. Just got to get her to book a date with them. At the minute I can do any day as signed off work with? You guest right MS. Sounds good but it is boring as he’ll, all part time work in my local area need you to either be on your feet and or going up and down ladders. What could go wrong eh?
