Hi Mike, have you been on the sick long term and perhaps working your way towards retirement due to ill health?
I did this back in 2000. But you have to let your firm tell you to see a doc of their choosing, to assess you for the job you are employed. if the result is no, then you will get an offer of a more suitable job or retirement.
This is how it worked for me when i worked for the local authority.
Other than that, if your sick pay from work expires, you`ll probably need to go onto ESA.
But I would`ve thought something would have been said before now. Do you still get sick notes from your GP?

yes have got a company welfare visit in the morning, my job is warehouse picking, heavy lifting etc, saw the company
doctor in july and he warned them that i would have probelms with regular attendance, been off since july after my right leg
gave way and i fell down the stairs at home, now using a safety walker and walking stick , the hospitial was concerned that
my left leg is now getting weaker due to it covering for the right, without the walker i would be on the floor, got to see the
company doctor again on wednesday,
Thanks
Mike
I think you need to aply for ESA Mike. You need to contact your local Job Centre you can do it by phone and they will send a form out to you. You need to send sick notes as well if your last one is still valid you can ask work to send it back to you that is what I did.
When Statutory Sick Pay runs out your employer should send you a form that will allow you to apply for ESA.
You can find out more about this benefit at www.benefitsandwork.co.uk
When SSP runs out is the time most employers will want to have a discussion about the future. Will you return to your job in the next few weeks or perhaps look for an alternative role in the organization. If you are not able to return to your job this is the point where your contract will be terminated.
If you have paid into a private pension you could explore the possibility of ill health retirement.
Whatever you decide to do I guess funds will be tight. Don’t forget to explore any payment protection that you might have, especially on your mortgage.

Just a thought Mike if your employment is likely to end it may be better for you to go for ill health retirement rather than just allow your company to sack you.
