Travelling and MS

Hi all

I have a real issue in regards to travelling and wanted to check if any of you might have the same symptoms of MS as me alrhough I know the chance is slim .

Basically im terrified of flying even tho I been on planes before, but not for the past 8 yrs! I havent been away on holiday for the past 4 years now and im in need of a real break and change of scenery . My concern is as i have occasional vertigo-usually around my monthly period or migraines. I have read online that during takw off or turbulence symptoms of vertigo may get exacerbated which paranoid me even more. On top of that I suffer from occasional anxiety which I know on the day if my travel will be full on !:confounded_face:

Has anyone on here experience vertigo and been on a plane? My fear is if i do get vertigo or dizziness what am I suppose to do whilst on the plane! It has really (apart from having ms) ruined my life and I feel very isolated not being able to go back home and see my family, and just try to forget about this dreadful disease and have some “fun”.

Thank you all in advance!

Hi, it might be worth having a chat with your GP to see if they can prescribe a few sedative tablets to take before you get on the plane. A work colleague had to do this to be able to fly, worked really well for her, the GP prescribed 4 tablets, one to be taken about an hour before the flight was due to take off (with a spare in case of delays).

A late reply from me, I get vertigo but I’m fine on planes even if I look out of the window - my vertigo comes when I feel there is nothing between me and long drop but in a plane I feel safe/ protected by the walls of the fuselage. Perhaps ask for an aisle seat and as @TheresaB says , ask for some sedative or similar.

Thank you both for your replies.

Im not comfortable with sedatives, if anything they exacerbate my anxiety so I dont think it will help. I will have a word with both GP and neurologist. Thank you

Just a thought, is it vertigo or dizziness? Perhaps a result of a change in air pressure?
