Tecfidera - skipping a pill

Hi Sue

I am feeling alot better. I managed to talk to my MS Nurse which said go to one tablet a day but unfortunately I couldn’t do it. My body couldnt cope so I have stopped the treatment at the moment. She has said give my body time to recover then start again. I really want to try this tablet again so im hoping we can sort out something. Consultant is back on 5th so I will receive a call then.

I do feel so much better for stopping it by body couldnt cope.

How are u doing?

Please don’t be scared of the 240mg as I has bad belly ache for about a week they lasted around 1 hour each but then they go and if you can do at least a week or so then they never come back which the feeling of just doing a week in pain is amazing!! As it’s in your system and you won’t need any other stuff for it trust me on this I was scared it wouldn’t subside but it did and it’s the best feeling so smash the 240mg and you will soon get better only took me 1 packet so imagine 1 delivery that’s it and you will get through it I have no symptoms as it’s in my system and even take without food and drink it’s just the pain you have to go through to see the other side believe and you will be like oh wow the side effects have now gone

Worth sticking at, I’ve taken Tec without food with no issues at all. Most morning’s I take it with a smoothy or a piece of fruit. Good luck.

I have started back on the treatment. Am 4days in on the lower doesage and these cramps are the worse. I am holding out but I’m not sure how long for. They are all the time and so sharp

Hi Mama_to_Freddie,

I was where you are now. The cramps made me WANT TO DIE (sorry to be dramatic). I got through the 120mg finally and have been on 240mg twice a day for a while. I took and am still taking pantoprazole and mebeverine HCL (will ask my doc if I can stop these when I feel confident enough). I think the mebeverine HCL is what made a HUGE difference for me. I also finish my meal so my stomach is full, then take the tecfidera then eat a few spoons of something fatty like peanut butter (I got the chocolate flavoured one).

Hiya

I’m struggling been in tears as the pain is so unbearable. These cramps are the worse. There’s no certain time when it is, it’s constant which can’t be right surely? From 1am is normally the worse.
Ok may call my doctor and get some as I need help. This is my 2nd time of the treatment and unfortunately I feel this isn’t for me :frowning:

When I was in pain, I stopped the tecfidera completely and only started again after I had more or less healed AND I took the stomach and colon medicine when starting tecfidera again (not after starting)

Ok was that advised by your MS Nurse?

I know its a very effective treatment but I have to think of everyday life and being in this much pain isn’t helping.
Have a 2yr old to look after and keep my job :sob: awaiting doctors call to see if I can get some stuff to help

Actually I’m currently outside the UK so I don’t have an MS nurse, I get all my instructions and advice directly from my neurologist. When I restarted the tecfidera, I had already been taking the stomach and colon medicine for a few days before that to recover from the horrendous pain the first time round.

Every person is different so definitely wait for advice from your MS nurse/doctor. I just wanted to share what worked with me as when I was where you are now, I never imagined that I would eventually be able to tolerate the pill. I still get a bit nauseous, etc. but it’s nothing compared to the nightmare I endured at the beginning.

Tell me how it goes. I can’t imagine having a young child to look after and on top of that a job to keep :frowning: hopefully some stomach/colon support will get you through this :heart:

I have skipped a pill now and again I get really furious headaches makes me feel sick. I havent discussed with anyone. I dont think its really done anything horrible to me. I just start again the following day.
