I thought I would ask for advice. I think I have just accidentally taken a Tecfidera tablet twice this evening about 10 mins apart. (forgetting about the first tablet. I am not feeling that great at the moment, a little hot and a little sick.
Has anyone done this and what should I do if anything?
You should call a medical professional / your MS nurse / a helpline listed on the Tecfidera Info sheet / good old 999 to be certain of your situation because ultimately, your coming in here, is simply looking for advice from a bunch of anonymous strangers on the internet!
Personally (but what the hell do i know??) I imagine that your current sensation of feeling hot and sick is entirely due to anxiety.
what size capsules did you take? 120mg or the 240mg? in any event, whilst taking twice the dose is not desirable, i do not think it dangerous.
the drug is slow release and so your body will not become inundated by it. also, the residency of the drug within the body is brief and will be out of your system in about 16 hours.
Hi I did the same by accident six months ago. I phoned Biogen as it was late morning. Biogen couldn’t help but said for me to speak to a MS nurse or GP and sent me out a form to complete regarding side effects. I got more flushing than usual but that’s all it didn’t last that long. I did speak to a GP by phone.
You could call NHS 111 ( open 24 hours) and they could get a GP to call you back to get advice.
I love how Biogen said “meh… don’t worry… you’ll be fine. But make sure to record all the horrible crap that might happen over the next day or so.”
When my ‘dedicated, pharmaceutical company representative’ (aka MS nurse) first introduced themselves and asked me to let them know of any and all side effects, they got quite defensive and mardy when i acknowledged the reality of fact, that the general pill popping public are a drug company’s biggest test group.
my white matter might be a bit flaky in places, but i am not ignorant to the fact that the only thing better than data, is MORE data.
I’m from MS Society UK and I’m a new forum admin. I haven’t had a chance to introduce myself properly to the community here yet, but wanted to respond to you as soon as possible.
Feeling hot and sick are actually in that list as well.
From your post I can see you took the tablets yesterday evening. If you’re still experiencing any of the side effects, please contact a health practitioner / doctor. You can also give us a call and talk things through with my colleagues on the Helpline: 0808 800 8000 or email helpline@mssociety.org.uk.
We hope you are feeling better already, but if you’re still a little hot and sick, please do visit your doctor / MS nurse.
