Hi, has anyone had any recent experience of NHS ill health retirement?
I’ve at the point where I’m strongly considering, due to physical/mental fatigue and cognitive difficulties. I have a specialist role and all elements exacerbate my MS. After work I’m physically and mentally exhausted. I’ve been off sick 5 months due to new MS symptom and no return date at present.
I’ve been looking into NHS ill health retirement recently, and it can definitely feel overwhelming with all the paperwork and medical evidence needed. One thing that’s helped me is also focusing on overall wellbeing alongside the process—supplements, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. I usually check Vitasave for natural health products that support energy and recovery, which has made a difference while dealing with the stress of applications. It won’t replace the NHS pension rules, but keeping your health in balance can make the journey a bit easier.
I fully agree that looking after overall wellbeing is imperative and that is the main reason for IHR. Work is such a mental and physical time consuming struggle, it’s impossible to look after wellbeing . Despite me being trained in both MH and nutrition.
I worked as PSA (education) in Glasgow City Council for over 21 years and although people said getting retirement was a very difficult thing to do with the council, I was fully supported by my Headteacher which was great.
I did not want to leave as I truly loved my job but getting home everyday and being totally gubbed made time with the family nearly non existent.
Since “retiring”. seems weird saying that at 55 years old I have more energy all round.
I am mainly at home as my mobility has dipped quite a bit but I am still doing all my normal chores (albeit a lot slower) and can for walks/shopping etc with my friends/family on my scooter.
Before I lived for work doing nothing else so I conserved myself for work.
I hope things work out for you and know that if there is anything I can help with I am more than happy to do so.
Thank you, that resonates with having nothing left for home life. I have to agree, even though off sick at present, my energy levels and motivation for home life is much improved.
