Hey all,
In the past 25 days or so, I have been having some symptoms which quite resemble MS. I will go and see a neurologist this week but wanted to get a few opinions before hand from the people who actually have the disease. Anyways, here is my story;
About a month ago or so, i had a big night and had a few joints and a some hits from an aluminum pipe and felt pretty high at the time.
The next day I had to drive some 60 miles or so to a friends place and I felt kinda lightheaded during the drive which i thought were due to the previous night and the after effects of MJ.
Anyways, during the same week, after my workouts, during dinner, i felt a bit of tingling on my left hand and I ignored it. The same week, I got kind of sick (irritated throat and lungs due to THC) Over the Christmas holiday, I felt lightheaded a few more times and had this dull headache, which got one night pretty bad that I had to take a painkiller. The pain was located in the frontal portion of my head so i thought my sinuses got also irritated by the MJ smoke. Anyways of course i ignored all these symptoms.
One night about 10 days ago, i went out with my friends to have a drink at a cafe which I felt was incredibly hot and afterwards I had this massive right sided headache which would not completely go away even with a painkiller.
The next day I went to a GP and he said it could be due to my sinuses and gave me some antibiotics. I took the antibiotics and didnt feel any better and several hours after taking the first dose of antibiotics, i started feeling tingling on my left hand and foot which went on for another 3 days. I thought maybe the tingling was a side-effect of the antibiotics. To make the long story short, i stopped the antibiotics and felt ok for a day until i took a hot shower to “open-up” my sinuses. But I started feeling tingling all over my feet and shins and after the shower I felt like crap and my left side started feeling weak. I now have a dull headache and pain in my upper and lower spine as well as a weak left side. Of course I am pretty scared that I have the first symptoms of MS. I have no relatives with this disease. What do you people think?
Oh I should mention that I am 29 year old otherwise healthy male with a minor thyroid issue (hypo). Any opinion would be of great help.
cheers
I think it’s a bit early to be thinking it’s MS.
It could be numerous other things so your best bet is a medical professional. They’ll need to rule out a host of other things and do other tests before they can tell what the problem might be.
I had no headaches at all, ever, with my MS. Nor does heat affect me in any way. But another person might be completely different. MS is a very individualised thing and can present in many different ways.
Go back to your GP and see what they think would be my advice.
My first thoughts having read what you wrote (apart from hoping that you weren’t driving stoned) were that what you are experiencing could be drug-related or migraine. Both of these things can cause neurological symptoms.
Another possibility is that you need your thyroid meds reviewed - perhaps you need a change in dose or a new med?
There are literally hundreds of things that cause symptoms very like MS, and you need to have more than one attack for it to be MS, so I wouldn’t worry about that for now.
Ultimately, the only way that you are going to find out is to see your GP again and ask to see a neurologist.

Hey There,
I want to give you all an update on what is going on.
Last week was relatively good on my side and my GP thought that I was just having sinusitis until this last saturday. I was soldering some stuff at work and I breathed in some of the smoke and all of a sudden I started feeling nauseous and got a unilateral headache
After about an hour or so I started feeling tingling once again on my left side.
Yesterday I went back to my GP and he sent me to a neuro. This morning was my neuro appointment and he did a general examination, EEG and EMG. The EEG and visual test were ok but for EMG, he thinks that there is something pathological when comparing the results between my left and right foot (the electrodes were connected from my head to the feet) and he ordered a head MRI which will be in three 3 weeks.
So just to mention once again. I have a unilateral headache that’s kinda persistent with a bit of eye pain and left side tingling. Sometimes, I also feel nauseous. Any opinions what might be causing all this? The neuro things that this is not typical of MS.
I will let you know once my MRI results are here.
It doesn’t sound like MS to me, but I’m afraid I don’t know what it could be. My money would have been on migraine, but I think the EMG results rule that out, as a sole cause at least. Fingers crossed the MRI clears things up for you. Kx
