Is it possible to have spinal only MS with clear brain MRI
Husband suddenly lost dexterity and use of L hand in 2020. Brain scan was clear, lumbar puncture was normal.
Originally they reported lesion / infarc on C spine, but after review decided it was just a normal variant and above the area that innervates the hand. That hand is spastic now with some atrophy from disuse
Then 18months ago he started developed a foot drop in L leg
EMG of hand normal, EMG of leg shows upper motor neuron lesion.
FINALLY they’ve done a whole spine MRI and we’ll get the results on Thurs.
Anyone on here have this and then went on to get an MS diagnosis??
Tbh I’d be happy if they did find something as the only other viable option is MND
Thank you so much for taking time to reply!
What were your most obvious first symptoms if I may ask?
His came on suddenly. Loss of dexterity and tingling pain when he stoked his forearm
Same with the leg. He also gets cramps and sharp sciatic type pain radiating down the affected leg and has foot drop.
About 1-2 months ago he started to develop strange numb sensation on L side of his face. He says feels like dental injection. And intermittently if he lift the left side of his mouth it will twitch.
Also a lot of fatigue.
These can obviously be signs of MS or MND Although he only has damage up the upper motor neurons and no evidence of denervation. So frustrating.
