I was diagnosed with MS last week and have been looking into my criticall illness cover to see if it will pay out. MS is an insured condition but there are ‘get out’ clauses within the policy. It basically says that if I have been to my doctor with symptoms, been diagnosed with or sought medical advice/treatment for x y and z then they will not pay out for MS. They did no medical checks before I took the policy out, I never even filled in any application or questionaire.
They have listed pre-existing symptoms such as numbness, weakness, abnormal sensation etc. I have obtained a copy of my medical records and before the policy was taken out I was back and forward to the doctor with what they thought were migraines and trapped nerves. The notes do mention weakness in my left arm and tingling but they do not mention the possibility of of anything serious being suspected. I did go to a neurologist for migraine and neck pain but no formal diagnosis was given and I have just soldiered on.
Will these records be enough to decline a claim under critical illness?
