I had my first infusion of Tysabri yesterday after being diagnosed with MS following a relapse and emergency MRI in June. The infusion went well, and I feel a bit tired, cold and achy today, particularly round the neck and shoulders. Since my diagnosis I have limited going out and about but now that I’m immuno-suppressed I am even more concerned about picking up illnesses. Are you more careful now about travelling or getting out and about or do you continue to do exactly what you did prior to diagnosis and treatment? I don’t know if I’m being sensible or too cautious, but I really don’t want to tempt fate! Any advice would be welcome. Thanks
I have been on Tysabri for 10+ years and I’m at least as good at fighting off bugs as the next person and better than many. It is not something that I worry about, and that’s saying something because worrying is my best thing.
Tysabri has been a wonder drug for me, and I hope you find the same.
p.s. you have been having a torrid time and you shouldn’t blame yourself for being a bit over-cautious. Your poor system will be on full-alert, and who can blame it? As the drug starts to work its magic, I feel sure that you will recover your usual confidence and feel more comfortable.
p.p.s I am glad you are on Tysabri. It is one of the big guns, and it really can stop even very active RRMS in its tracks, which is exactly what you want.
Also very recently started Tysabri ( had my first dose a couple of weeks ago) and I am living life as normal. Still going to work in a large residential home for the elderly. Still shopping at Aldi, still going to the pub. I am a stubborn kinda person though.
It seems everything has happened to you over a very short period of time, so you’ll need to give yourself some time to adjust to it all and let your new situation sink in. You’ll get there
Jx
Thanks both, I feel reassured that I need to give myself time to adjust and that my confidence in getting out and about will grow again over time. I do go to the gym and the supermarket but that’s about it currently as I’m able to work from home.
I’m not on Tysabri but still wear a good facemask - FPP2, KF94 or similar when I go indoors where there are people. Not that many wearing masks around here at the moment, but I’ve not had any reactions or unwanted attention. Flu, Covid, colds aplenty at the moment locally, so I just think the Japanese are sensible, so I’ll take my cue from them, even though I’m in the UK! So far I’ve not had Covid, flu or any cold over the last 3 years, and I’d like to keep it that way!
Ultimately you need to do what feels right to you, what degree of risk you want to take.
