Ill health retirement/work

Boudica how do I start a new thread ?

Hey Bonzo

I will reply for Bouds for you. Near the top of the page click the blue oblong box that says new topic. Then a title box will come up where you put in what you want to talk about and then there is a box for the body of your text.

Hope this helps

This is my first ever post but this is exactly what Iā€™ve been looking for! This week, Iā€™ve had to leave my job as a secondary school teacher. After soldiering on for 12 years with MS, the job has just become too much. My employer is being brilliant, helping me to access my pension on the grounds of ill-health but I feel like Iā€™m floundering around, unsure what to do. Iā€™ve also been speaking to my MS nurse about the possibility Iā€™ve moved onto the secondary progressive phase and Iā€™m not sure how to feel about this. Any advice out there?

Have you considered seeking ā€˜reasonable adjustmentsā€™ to enable you to continue teaching?

Have you actually resigned - if not you should get 6 months full pay followed by 6 months half pay.

Have you considered going part time - not always a good idea because it may adversely affect your eventual pension -

The bottom line is you have to look at all the options and go for the one that is most beneficial to you.

Remember your employers are just that - they are not your friends - you may have to fight for the best deal.

(Apologies for my cynicism! )

(had a teacher friend - worked on the Friday was pensioned off on the Monday (He was quite happy to leave but had somehow been disuaded from going on exended sick leave etc which would have been more rewarding financially.)

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately over the last few years my employer has made numerous adjustments to help me and Iā€™ve even tried the part-time option - all to no avail, my MS seems to continue to affect me regardless. The Head at my school has a close relative with MS and I think this has made him more understanding. I think itā€™s also a case of the way I feel about the professional integrity of the job. After the on-set of cognitive problems, I knew I just wasnā€™t the same teacher I was a few years ago.

ā€œYou can ā€œEARNā€ more than enough if your condition is genuineā€

Surprised that having a disability was looked upon by some disabled people as a way to ā€œEARNā€ money ?

Do some people really think of their disability as a way to "EARN" money ?

I find that shocking if Iā€™m honest.
