Hi Jen - probable MS is a proper diagnosis. It’s an unfortunate term though because it sounds anything but. It’s basically mid way between CIS and MS and means that the patient is 3/4 of the way to a full diagnosis. Kx

I am probably being slightly simplistic when I say that neuros generally expect that something like 30 % of the referrals they see will not actually be affected by a neurological illness but that there will be psychological, social or behavioural (functional) explanations for the apparently neurological symptoms. Thats a huge proportion that they are always trying to identify. They wont diagnose a physical illness unless they are sure.
