Hi Guys, having to give up work after working since Uni for 13 years

Hi guys, I have been working steadily since around 2013, due to my MS and how it is affecting me now I don’t believe I will be able to continue working. I was wondering is what support is available as I currently get PIP, and I was wondering, is there any other services or support that would be available for me? Thank you.

I advise you to keep working as long as you possibly can, even if it means taking on a different sort of role, more suited to your physical capabilities. General health & well-beig will suffer immeasurably if you give up on the routine and the sharpness needed to be effective in work.

I should know, having gone past the point of no return.

Do your current employers know you have MS ? Have they made reasonable adjustments to help you continue to work?

Could you work part time or reduce your hours at all or have extra breaks ?

You could apply for Access to Work which would pay for you to get to and from work by taxi if that would help.

I don’t know what other benefits you may be entitled to.

Get in touch with MS Society they have Benefit Advisors who may be able to help you claim for other benefits and Employment Law Solicitors.

It would be in your best interests not to resign. If you really can’t continue to work allow your employer to terminate your contract of employment.

As someone who has had to give up work after 40+ years it is a massive step to take but it was the best thing for my physical and mental health. I pushed myself to continue for too long.

Wishing you all the best , take care.
