Help please -After 13 years I may be close to diagnosis

Had a clinically isolated episode in 2012 - loads of investigations (lesion in peri-v and 1 in Corpus Collosum) but left in watchful waiting then new symptoms flair up Dec 24 - a brain scan in Jan T4 Flair revealed scattered lesions in peri-v and corpus collosum, gp found babinski sign and referred to Neuro.
Saw neuro this Monday 12th May 25 and he was more concerned. His report reads like this
‘ Examining him today cranial nerves were unremarkable. Eye movements were full. No evidence of nystagmus. Speech was normal. Examining his lower limbs there is a degree of spasticity and there was sustained clonus in both ankles. He did display up going plantars on the right. His reflexes were brisk globally. He did have positive Hoffman’s sign. He does not report symptoms of hermitte’s phenomena. Walking was normal. He had no difficultly with tandem walking. Romberg test was negative.

Impression and Plan:

This man clinically does have a degree of spasticity in his lower limbs. I think the possibility of demyelination cannot be ruled out however we cannot make a diagnosis of MS at this juncture but it is essentially a possibility.

Further investigations:

  1. MRI head with contrast.
  2. MRI whole spine with contrast.
  3. Demyelinating screening panel requested today.
  4. May consider a lumbar puncture depending on the MRI results.
  5. Follow up after the above.

With this information and Neuro’s report do folks think im more likely to get a MS diagnosis?
Any one else had similar symptoms/ findings and been diagnosed.

I might finally get an answer after 13 years.

Sorry if this sounds a bit unhelpful but , if after examination your neurologist is unable to make a diagnosis of MS then none of us on the forum will be able to add anything to the neurologist conclusion that MS can’t be ruled out. All I can do is tell you about my first major ( and fairly typical) symptom which was optic neuritis- losing just about all vision in my right eye.

One thing that MS folk soon realise is that the process of diagnosis can seem long and patience is required. Not easy I know but as you say you might now be near to getting a diagnosis

Yes - none of us can say. But the good thing is it sounds like your neurologist is doing all the right things and being thorough. People have heard of MS, but there are lots of other things they need to rule out and check before they can get near a diagnosis. Important thing is to be in safe hands.
