headache and pain in eyes

Hi all,

Im not sure at all if this is related to my other problems but thought it worth asking

Ive been getting really bad pain in my head and eyes. It either comes on during the night or as soon as i get up. The pain is in the back of my head at the bottom of my skull. My eyes hurt ( they feel like someone is trying to push them through my head. They also hurt when i move them around. Pain killers have no effect on either and it seems to last for a few hours, then i feel batter for an hour or so and then it comes back with a vengence!!! Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do?

Have you had your blood pressure checked recently.
I have been suffering a lot of headaches recently and have later found I have high blood pressure, a potential cause.

I am no expert, but from what I have read, your headache does not sound like a typical MS generated one, but then what is typical, I could well be wrong.
I hope you get some better advice and hopefully a means to get rid of them.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Yep my blood pressure is fine. I have it checked regularly.

Does the pain run up the back of your head from your neck before going to your eyes? If I’m right, I remember Rizzo saying that kind of headache is occipital neuralgia. Look that up and see if it might be what you have.

Deb

Hi Deb,

yep it does, its an odd feeling. Im getting kind of rushy feelings too, as though something has just hit my system ( i havent taken anything extra to day though) im going to look it up now.

Thanks Emx

Hi again,

ive just read the description online as looks like me down to a tee!

Hi Emma - do you have neuropathic painkillers? maybe you need some if not. Again, I’m only stabbing in the dark with the next comment but I think Karen has previously said it’s a sign of relapse… I really hope not in your case but take it easy just in case. Hope you get better quickly xx

Hi suffer from Basilar Vestibular Migraine, this is sometimes without pain and can cause vertigo, balance probs and other symptoms which can mimic MS. I have been ill for 12Mths, and 4 weeks ago I was put on Betablockers. They are beginning to work thank god, but I know what you mean about the pain in the back of your head, it is the worst ever. See your GP and tell him/her how you are feeling.

Good Luck

Hi Jan,

im due to see my GP tomorrow so I will tell her. I do feel a bit unsettled about telling her, as everytime i go i seem to have a new symptom.

Hi Em, I get pain in the muscles behind my eyes (hurts to move them) with light sensitivity and sometimes (but not always) a headache and was told by neuro it was retrobulbar neuritis. I take painkillers and wear sunglasses, both of which help.

Mags xx

Hi All,

Been to see my GP today and gave her a long list of my growing symptoms. She upped my dose of Tramadol ( which i dont think will help my head) and that was it. She also said to me ’ you do realise that we are no longer trying to diagnose you, we are just treating the symptoms you have’ My neuro said the same to me in July. Looks like im in for the long haul!!

Hi Emma,

Have you tried reflexology? I have these types of pain but find reflexology is fantastic and it works wonders for my neuropathic pain. It’s not available on the NHS but some MS centres do it cheaper. I have mine once a month and find it’s worth the £28 a session. It might be worth a go, if you can find the money. I’ve been diagnosed for 7 years and this is my only treatment apart from botox on my bladder and Vitamin D3.

Good luck and I hope the pain eases,

Take care BFx

Hi all,

Well the good news is the pain in my head has eased off, got really bad again last night and went to bed with a hot water bottle on the base of my skull. Bad news is i Think i overdid the painkillers as made myself sick!!

I havent tried reflexology yet, ive had accupuncture, I had it in my back and hands and the needles in my hands were too painful to keep in. I might give reflexology a go though, what do they actually do during a session?
