Hey,
I had my first half dose of Ocrevus on the 15fh June. I’ve walked 6k and my legs have just buckled so my husband had to link me. Does it take time for the treatment and effects to show?
Thank you

Hi, wow, that’s fantastic!
But maybe you did too much too soon.
Take it slower.

Hi, thank you. I used to run 10k a day but now I can barely walk that much anymore
I will take it slower now.
Hi Nic
Don’t want to burst your bubble, but what are your expectations for ocrelizumab? What have you been told?
It doesn’t cure MS and nor does it stop the progression of MS - just slows it down. In other words, if your limit is a 6k walk now, 6k will stay as your limit barring other health factors that you may be able to change.

Hi Graeme,
I’ve only known I’ve had this since December last year. It is a hell of lot for me to process and deal with. I guess my bubble has burst as to be honest, I didn’t take it all in when I had my consultation. Me going into all this completely unaware, I stupidly thought I could do the things I once did, I know I won’t and it’s alot for me to take in. I definitely know my limit now.

Hi Nic
Sorry - I feel really shitty for dropping that on you but it did seem as if you were labouring under a misunderstanding.
Best to do your own research, to see where you fit in to things - where your disease affects you and extent of advancement. If RRMS is caught early enough and the right meds are administered, it seems possible in some cases to effectively stop MS in its tracks. Others are too advanced or respond less well, so relapses can still occur. Or maybe you have Progressive MS (PP- or SP-) in which case the only hope is that meds might slow down advancement of symptoms.
Start with MS Society (this site) and MS Trust. I promise you, it will be less scary once you’ve become more informed. Own it, don’t let it own you!

Hello,
I notice my left knee starts to buckle a lot more lately --maybe it’s due to the MS?
Actually since having a bad relapse last January, I now get tinnitus in left ear and swallowing difficulties.
I’m not on any treatment right now but hopefully will restart in late August.
I joke myself that by next year I’ll become like Benjamin Button and start to age in reverse, after having treatment.
Best,
JP
Some of us find that things do get a bit better generally on an effective DMD. Not that it undoes any permanent damage left by previous relapses - there’s no getting that toothpaste back in the tube - but by helping the body to do all it can do to heal and by enabling us to do all we can do to strengthen the bits that do work - regain fitness, in other words. Tysabri has done that for me. I have had MS a long time and accumulated a fair bit of damage, so my walking does have a hard end-stop whatever I do - but that end-stop is further than it was when I started, 10+ years ago.
Hi Graeme,
Thank you. I’m yet to find out what the level Is called for the MS that I have. I’ve just started Ocrevus, hopefully that will help to slow it down for me. I will do my research on it though as I need to.
Hi,
That’s how I used to describe it to the doctors that my legs were buckling and my back dipped. They didn’t have a clue what I was going on about. I found out I had MS as my company paid for me to have a private appointment.

I am praying that this Ocrevus that I am on works for me. It’s hard when It’s all new for you.
Take care
Nic
I am taking Ocrevus (Ocrelizumab) and it appears to be doing the job… right pain organising the pre-infusion tests and all that, but one infusion every six months beats 3x week injections any day! Good luck with it - take a good book and some snacks for a long day in the infusion room, and then it’s over and done with!
Thank you. I’ve spoke to my MS nurse and she’s told me to rest as much as I can. I took my phone with me but ate soo many of their biscuits. I’m pleased ot it being every 6 months Still alot for me to process but I’ll get there Hope you’re ok?
Thanks
Nic Xx
Not so bad, thanks… just coming up to my six monthly infusion (next week), and we’ll see how it goes! We’ll have the usual palaver with my shy veins - they don’t like being stabbed with needles and tend to hide… the record is six attempts to get enough for a blood test, and came out feeling like a pincushion…
Glad you’re ok. Good luck with the Infusion. Oh wow, that’s a fair few attempts Hopefully they won’t be as shy next time round
Here’s hoping!!
