Gabapentin - your experiences

I’m new here. This might be an old post but I found it googling Gabapentin and MS society.

I have to say my experience has been bad. Very bad. It helped with the neuro pain (a bit) and hypersensitivity. But my god did I have memory issues! I couldn’t finish sentences. I would lose words. I could barely follow when people talked at work. I had eye focus issues. Anger, irritability and stomach problems.

I was on 3x 300mg a day (I took all at night because I had to drive and work in the day. My GP knew but didn’t say you stop). I found I would need another if I was having a bad day or woke up in the night. 5 years I was on this stuff. Then I decided to come off. I lowered too quick and had terrible withdrawals. Tinnitus, nausea, shakes, panic attacks. Outbursts of anger. I realised after I came off just how much I shouldn’t have been on this. I had a history of substance abuse, and mental health problems related to stress and depression. Drs never thought twice about putting me on this which was wrong in my opinion. It played a huge part in a very important relationship being lost. Be careful.

Hi, I was on Gabepentin for a few years, I didn’t suffer with any side effects, but after about 10yrs the meds were no longer having the desired effect, so I was transferred to pregabalin, now this 1 for no good for me, it made me feel depressed and suicidal, so after a little while came off, now for the pain I don’t take anything, I just grin and bear it, do mindfulness and try to distract myself with reading, puzzles, its at night I struggle, I use cold pads, + cold towel’s to ease the pain. Good luck with whatever you decide to do
